Chad Kroeger on Avril Lavigne Breakup Talk: Don't Believe the Rumors

The Nickelback frontman thinks speculation on the demise of his marriage is "hilarious"

Don’t believe the hype.

According to Nickelback frontman Chad Kroeger, rumors about the demise of his marriage to Avril Lavigne are just that – rumors.

“Sometimes it’s funny,” the singer told Canadian entertainment show eTalk. “When you’re standing in the checkout line at the grocery store and you look over and it’s your face on there. Not the Kardashians and Brangelinas it’s ‘Chavril,’ ” he said with a laugh. “You’re like, ‘Can I buy all these? So that no one can see?’ ”

But sometimes, he says, it’s less hilarious. “My family members hear this stuff and then they call me up very concerned.”

Take his father, for instance, who, the musician tells ET Canada, called him up saying he was so worried about that chatter that he hadn’t slept in two days.

“I’m like, ‘Dad, you’re not buying all this crap, are you?’ ” he told the show.

Kroeger also likened the Hollywood rumor mill to being in high school all over again. “All that stuff that people say behind each other’s back is minuscule, pales in comparison to the world of celebrity,” he told ET. “That’s like high school multiplied exponentially. It’s ridiculous.”

He added that perhaps it was time to switch up the gossip a bit.

“Let’s start a new rumor,” he said. “I’m pregnant!”
