Disgraced ex-Rep. Grimm begins 8-month stay in federal prison

Disgraced former Staten Island Rep. Michael Grimm became Prisoner #83479-053 Tuesday at the medium-security federal lock-up in Lewis Run, Pa.

Grimm pleaded guilty in December to federal tax fraud, admitting he hid $1 million is sales receipts from a restaurant he once owned in Manhattan called Healthalicious.

He also admitted to hiring undocumented immigrants and lying under oath in a civil deposition.

The guilty plea came just a month after he was handily re-elected to a third term, while campaigning under federal indictment.

Dan Donovan, the former Staten Island district attorney, was elected in a May special election to replace Grimm, who stepped down following his conviction.

Grimm, a Republican, surrendered at noon to start an eight-month prison term at the McKean federal prison.

It’s a mighty fall for the former FBI agent and Marine, who once threatened to throw a NY 1 reporter over a Capitol building balcony for questioning him about the criminal investigation.
