1. Adapted from the 1920’s book by F Scott Fitzgerald, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button stars Brad Pitt in the leading role – a man who is born in his eighties and ages backwards.

2. Set in New Orleans the plot follows his story from 1918 at the end of World War 1, into the 21st century and the people and places he meets along the way. Also starring Cate Blanchett and Tilda Swinton as Benjamin’s love interests, the film was directed by David Fincher and written by Eric Roth.

3. Brad Pitt, who plays Benjamin, recently turned 45 and spoke to reporters at the Berlin premiere of the film. He told them he isn't afraid of getting old but is more concerned with how he'll die.

"I'm not so afraid of getting old, I'm more afraid of how I'll go. Fire and tight spaces don't appeal. A shark would be interesting," he said.

5. The film has gained widespread critical acclaim in the US and received numerous award nominations, including 11 Bafta nods and five Golden Globe nominations.

6. Director David Fincher has worked with Brad Pitt twice before - on box office hits Seven and Fight Club (pic below).

Filming started in New Orleans on 6 November 2006. Director Fincher said the recovery from Hurricane Katrina had not hindered the process and praised New Orleans. The place had a huge impact on Pitt, who bought a family home there and co-sponsored an eco-friendly housing development in the 9th Ward in an attempt to help rebuild one of the areas worst hit by the hurricane. 7. An early working of the script tipped John Travolta to play Benjamin.

8. On its Christmas day opening in America, the film opened in the number two position, behind Marley & Me, at the US box office. More from the red carpet below...

10.Cate Blanchett, who plays Daisy, and Brad played a couple once before in 2007's Babel. After filming had ended, Cate joked that she no longer wanted to work with the actor because it was "disgusting" how in love with Angelina he was.
