Montgomery County commissioners announce recycling events

NORRISTOWN – The Montgomery County Commissioners announced six recycling dates for electronic equipment and another six household hazardous waste collection.

The commissioners also scheduled three paper-shredding events in the county along with a rain barrel and compost bin sale.

The first shredding event was held on April 12 and approximately 10,500 pounds of paper were shredded, according to a press release.

‘Once again this year, we are happy to be sponsoring more than a dozen recycling events throughout the county for our residents,’ commissioners’ Chairman Josh Shapiro said in a press release. ‘We urge all of our residents to take advantage of this popular program.’

The electronic recycling programs are scheduled for May 3 at Oak Ridge Elementary School at 465 Moyer Road in Harleysville, June 7 at Norristown Area High School at 1900 Eagle Drive, July 12 at the main campus of Montgomery County Community College by the Cathcart Road entrance, Aug. 2 at Hatboro-Horsham High School at 899 Horsham Road, Sept. 27 at Spring-Ford Ninth Grade Center at 400 South Lewis Road and on Oct. 25 at Upper Merion Middle School at 435 Crossfield Road. All of the events will last from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Hazardous waste will not be collected at the electronic recycling events.

Hazardous waste collections are scheduled for April 26 at Indian Valley Middle School at 130 Maple Avenue, May 31 at Norristown Area High School, June 28 at Temple-Ambler at 1431 East Butler Avenue, July 20 at Abington Junior High School at 970 Highland Avenue, Sept. 20 at Spring-Ford Ninth Grade Center and Sunday Oct. 19 at Lower Merion Transfer Station at 1300 North Woodbine Avenue in Penn Valley. Latex paint, Alkaline batteries and prescription medications will not be accepted as hazardous waste at these events, according to the press release.

The county will also be hosting a rain barrel and compost bin sale on May 17 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Montgomery County Community College on 340 DeKalb Pike in Blue Bell. There will also be a paper shredding and tire collection from 9 a.m. to noon on June 21 at Copper Beach Elementary School at 825 North Easton Road in Glenside; and a paper shredding event at Lower Merion High School at 315 East Montgomery Avenue in Ardmore on Oct. 18 from 9 a.m. to noon.
