International outdoor company Patagonia is backing a high profile scheme to restore a well-known Lake District trail devastated by Storm Desmond.
The Lake District Foundation has been invited into Patagonia's store in Manchester city centre on Saturday to help raise funds and awareness of the campaign to restore the route between Keswick and Threlkeld.
Customers will have the opportunity to view the Lake District virtually with VR headsets and the BirdHive app created by the Lake District National Park.
Sarah Swindley, director at the Lake District Foundation, said: "Patagonia’s brand ethos aligns with the foundation’s aims and objectives. They are passionate about conserving the environment and protecting the landscape.
"We can share our passion for the Lake District and let people know about our current fundraising campaign of reinstating the Keswick to Threlkeld Railway multi-user trail."
Funds raised during the day will go towards reconnecting the Keswick to Threlkeld railway path, some parts of which were severely damaged during the floods in 2015.
Two of the old railway bridges that crossed the River Greta were washed away, one bridge left at risk of collapse and around 200 metres of the path surface disappeared into the floodwaters.
In December 2017 the LDNPA were delighted to announce a major funding boost to the project – a £2.5 million grant from Highways England and a partnership with the Lake District Foundation to jointly fundraise the shortfall of around £3 million.
