Mother, Toddler Die After Struck By Speeding Car On Bayshore

Tampa Police say a mother and her 21-month-old daughter in a stroller were hit while walking across Bayshore Boulevard.

TAMPA, FL -- Tampa Police say a 21-month-old toddler has died at Tampa General Hospital from injuries she sustained when a car struck her stroller on Bayshore Boulevard Wednesday, May 23.

Police say 24-year-old Jessica Reisinger Raubenolt of Jeromesville, Ohio, was pushing her daughter, Lillia, in a stroller across Bayshore near Knights Avenue at a legal crossing from a pedestrian ramp around 11:43 a.m. when they were struck by a 2018 Ford Mustang driven by Cameron Herrin, 18, of 2507 W, Gardner Court, Tampa.

Reisinger was pronounced dead at Tampa General Hospital. Her daughter, who was listed in serious condition, died Thursday.

Police say Herrin was reportedly drag racing a Nissan driven by a 17-year-old boy.

According to Tampa Police spokesman Steve Hegarty, witnesses saw the cars driving side by side, switch places and switch lanes before Herrin struck Reisinger.

Herrin and the 17-year-old were arrested on charges of street racing and two counts of vehicular homicide. A passenger in the Mustang, 20-year-old Tristan Herrin, has been charged with one count of racing.

Following the accident, the city of Tampa has posted flashing signs on trailers alerting the public that the speed limit has been reduced from 40 mph to 35 mph on Bayshore. The flashing signs are temporary until the city can install permanent signs and flashing lights.
