Gigi Hadid and Zayn Malik are "back to normal" and "closer than ever" following a breakup and amid personal turmoil suffered by the former One Direction singer.
The two had split briefly several weeks ago after dating on and off for about seven months and then got back together again. Malik, 23, then canceled a show at London's Capital Summertime Ball, saying he had "suffered the worst anxiety of my career." Hadid, 21, took to Twitter to voice her support and love for her beau.
"Things are back to normal with them," a source close to Malik told E! News exclusively. "They got through a rough patch that Zayn was facing personally and it started to put a dark cloud on their relationship. Gigi was there for him when he needed her the most and that brought them closer than ever."
Malik and Hadid were last photographed together just after their reconciliation. He has since largely kept away from the limelight, although he continues to use social media and is also featured on one of the covers of ELLE U.K.'s upcoming September 2016 issue and on the new cover of Paper magazine.

"They have been spending some alone time together lately without the media seeing them," the source added. "Zayn is feeling better with the help of Gigi and many other close people in his life. It's a work in progress for him."
An insider had told E! News last month, after Malik's concert cancellation that the singer has "opened up to Gigi about his anxiety the past few weeks" and that the two "have been through a lot these past few months, but they are really trying to communicate better going forward."
Another source had said that Gigi and her family have all been there for Malik amid his turmoil, adding, "Zayn really appreciates Gigi even more after this because he sees how much Gigi is there for him."
