Sometimes it’s to protect and serve pizza.

Oregon police officers were snapped while making a surprise special delivery of a couple’s pie after the original delivery man was ensnared in a traffic accident.

Officers Michael Filbert and Royce Curtiss of Portland’s police force decided to lend the injured delivery man a hand and fulfill the order, much to the surprise of bewildered customers.

Steve Huckins, who answered the door to the uniformed men Sept. 1, said he was initially worried that something was wrong.

Customer Steve Huckins said he had to take a picture of the two uniformed men or else no one would believe him.

Once the two cops explained to them what happened, “we just started laughing,” Huckins told KPIV.

“They turn around to leave, and I said, ‘whoa, whoa, whoa — I got to get a picture of this. No one is going to believe Portland police delivering a pizza.’ So that’s the picture everyone saw,” Huckins told KOIN.

The elated customer said he hoped the photo he took would recognize the officers going above and beyond the call of duty.

“Because I feel police get criticized too much,” he said.

Upon hearing about the delivery man’s situation, a manager for Pizza Hut had delivered another pizza to the hungry couple just before the officers made it to their door.

That one was delivered at half price.
