NBC'S EXCLUSIVE WINDOW TO NEGOTIATE WWE TV DEAL ENDS NEXT WEEK, WWE HALL OF FAME ATTRACTION MAY BE PART OF THE NEGOTIATIONS

By Mike Johnson on 2014-01-24 09:29:00
The New York Post reported today that NBC Universal launching a physical WWE Hall of Fame attraction at their Universal Studios Orlando theme park is being considered as part of NBC's pitch for a new deal that would keep WWE programming on their family of networks.

According to the Post article, NBC has until 2/1 before their exclusive negotiating window ends. However, NBC has the right to match any outside offer WWE receives once the company begins taking bids outside of NBC.

In an extremely smart tactic, WWE, for the first time, set all of their TV rights to end at the same time, allowing the company to negotiate the entire WWE TV franchise at once like a sports league would - as opposed to negotiating new deals for Raw, Smackdown, etc. as older deals for those series expired.

Universal Orlando has long been a rumored home for the WWE Hall of Fame. Placing it within the park or on their Citiwalk property would insure a steady stream of foot traffic for a potential Hall and anything else that would be included (restaurant, store, etc.) as part of the facility.

WWE issued the following statement to the Post in regard to their negotiations: "WWE is the hottest property on cable and a proven ratings juggernaut. However, we are in an exclusive negotiating window until the end of next week."
