A man accused of killing a 51-year-old Denver woman last month is being held in the Downtown Detention Center without bond.

Frank Churchill, 62, arrested Dec. 16 and charged Dec. 22 with first-degree murder, said Lynn Kimbrough, a spokeswoman for Denver District Attorney Mitch Morrissey.

Churchill is scheduled to appear in court on Friday. His case file has been sealed.

Churchill has a criminal record dating to the 1970s, according to a Colorado Bureau of Investigation records database. His convictions include drug and assault charges. His most recent arrest was in 2011, according to the CBI records.

Renita Jackson was found stabbed to death Dec. 3 at an apartment building on the 1700 block of South Federal Boulevard.

Jackson, a woman with a troubled past, had two children and five grandchildren. She was known by her family as an avid Broncos fan and loved celebrating holidays with her grandchildren, according to her obituary.

Jackson was the 50th person killed in Denver in 2015, a year that saw homicide rates at their highest point in nine years.
