Normalista

I`m having problems finding a translation for the word above. The context is below:

En esta muestra participaron dos de la especialidad (historia), tres de formación básica y uno procediente de la antigua formación normalista.

History majors, elementary education majors, and another type which is now no longer used.

The training consited of training to be a teacher not at the university, but starting in highschool. Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks alot.

Saludos.

En México un normalista es alguien que estudia en la "normal" o escuela del magisterio. El graduado de allí da clases (si tiene suerte) en una escuela primaria.

    Acá también:

    Function: noun
Etymology: translation of French école normale; from the fact that the first school so named in France was intended to serve as a model for other teacher training schools
: a school for the training chiefly of elementary schoolteachers commonly state-supported and usually offering a two-year course to high school graduates --
