Current Status
1. The government has declared all earthquake affected areas crisis zones and has mobilized the government mechanism for rescue and relief of earthquake victim.
2. Though the effects were felt in all the districts of Nepal, the most affected districts identified are: Rasuwa, Dolakha, Sindhupalchowk, Nuwakot, Dhading, Ramechhap, Gorkha and Kavrepalanchowk.
3. The government has set up 16 relief centres at various places in the capital. So far relief centres have not been set to provide help on the outskirts of Kathmandu.
4. Fearing that aftershocks may cause more devastation during the night, people are camping out in the open. It has been raining and this and the cool weather has caused more difficultly for all concerned (both survivors and rescuers).
5. Living in the close proximity in open space increases the danger of spreading of communicable diseases. Hygiene and sanitation issues are critical.
6. Food shortages, commodities and lack of safe drinking water in the area is creating a serious problem.
7. Some of the International disaster rescue and relief team have begun arriving in Kathmandu.
Local Churches Responding
As a response towards the disaster, an emergency meeting of local church leaders, development origination leaders and community leaders was held on 26-27 April 2015. A united coalition has been formed called “Disaster Relief Christian Community” (DRCC) and they have formed working groups to respond to the crisis.
