Voters in Newcastle will be pushing buttons soon enough.

The annual town meeting will be Tuesday, June 10, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the fire station building on River Road for the closed balloting portion.

The open town meeting will be the following Monday, June 16, at the Lincoln Academy Nelson Bailey Gymnasium.

The total proposed municipal budget will be $1.5 million, while the county tax will be $343,000 and the school has a proposed $2.9 million budget, totaling a $4.78 million budget before overlay.

Voters will also get the opportunity to vote for or against a sign ordinance that has regulations for the sizes and types of signs allowed in Newcastle.

Voters will be tasked with approving a $290,543 for the general government fund, which is actually a decrease from a year ago; most of the savings are accrued from lowered health insurance costs. That fund pays for town government employees’ salaries, general legal fees, Maine Municipal Association dues, and other costs.

The fire department will have a slight increase in its budget, from $102,000 in 2013-14 to $103,000 for the upcoming year. Protection services, such as animal control and ambulance service among others, will likewise have a small increase; from $167,000 to $168,000.

The public works department will have an increase from $351,000 in 2013-14 to $405,000 in 2014-15. That increase is mainly due to a $38,000 contract that was not in the previous year's budget, to have downtown snow removed.

The proposed budget for the inter-local agreement between Newcastle and Damariscotta will also increase. For the upcoming year the proposed budget will be $106,000, which is a $4,000 increase from a year ago.

There is also a proposed $60,000 increase for the planning board in its comprehensive plan study that was not in the budget a year ago.
