From the Back Cover

One choice can transform you—or it can destroy you. Tris Prior's initiation day should have been marked by celebration, victory, and the thrills of being ranked first among the initiate class of her chosen faction, Dauntless. Instead, the day ends with the unspeakable horrors of Erudite simulation attacks, and while Tris survives thanks to her Divergent nature, many she loves do not.

War now seems inevitable. Though the Dauntless have been freed from Erudite mind control, conflict between the factions and their ideologies is only beginning. And in war, sides must be chosen, secrets will emerge, and choices will become even more irrevocable—and even more powerful. Transformed by her own decisions but also by haunting grief, radical new discoveries, and a fast-deepening romance, Tris must fully embrace her Divergence, even if she does not know what she may lose by doing so.

New York Times bestselling author Veronica Roth's second book of the dystopian divergent series is another intoxicating thrill ride of a story, rich with her hallmark twists, heartbreaks, romance, and powerful insights about human nature.

Bought New, Received Used Copy
Product was advertised as new, but was clearly old and used. The spine was cracked and pages were dog eared, dirty, worn and yellow. Love the book, I was buying a second copy for myself because my old one was falling apart. Guess I’ll just have to replace this one sooner than expected.

The second novel in a trilogy is rarely better than the first. The newness of the world introduced in the first book, the excitement of meeting characters for the first time cannot be duplicated in the second book. I loved Divergent, the first book in the trilogy, especially because of the thrill of discovering the Dauntless world for the first time. This second book, Insurgent, takes the story further, as necessary. It is a true continuation of Divergent, beginning with the same scene the first book ends with. It fleshes out more of the world and the other factions and it raises the stakes in the conflicts. I will admit to having to stop a couple times to remind myself who a secondary character was, but the story swept me up in much the same way as the first book. I give this five stars as I believe that those who enjoyed Divergent will really appreciate the curtain begin pulled back on this world a bit more. The book is exciting and full of moments that you can not predict. Tris continues to be a strong character who is full of faults and frequently makes difficult and even wrong decisions. I enjoy what a unique female character she is, not needing to be rescued, but not always saving the day either. Insurgent made me laugh and gasp and I will be impatiently waiting for the next instalment.

Tris is learning how to cope with the death of her parents and killing Will. While at the same time trying to understand her feelings toward Tobias. Oh and don't forget there is a war going on and the divergent members of society are the target of some very bad people.

Roth has done a good job of humanizing her characters. There are no superhuman hero's or purely evil bad guys. Everyone has weaknesses and shades of grey. This means that the characters in Insurgent are people you can relate to and care about,

Insurgent is a quick read and not simply because it's a young adult novel but the plot, story and character development move very quickly. Characters and story are developmed through exciting plot events not long and drawnout reveals.

This world that Roth has created is mysterious and bizarre. We as readers are never really provided with an explaination as to why the society exists in the fashion it does. Factions specializing in one single component of civil life supporting eachother but living separately. Insurgent reveals a tiny piece of this puzzle at the end......

If you enjoy a little imagination in your fiction this series is worth reading.

Great story and tempting storyline. Although I ordered a new one they sent an old one. The quality of the pages are alright so I won’t complain. This book gives a great follow up of the previous book divergent.

in this book, the character is being developed and constantly being challenged.
there were enough exciting things going on with the character to keep me reading.

the third book review made me hesitant to start this book series but i have no idea what there were talking about.
the last book was good. Not Great but definitely give it a pass.

I too however, dislike the writer spinoff on the ending to create a new series of books. I don't blame her, but the ending could have been writting a little bit better.

Overall, the this second book and the series is worth a read.

I found this book to be a typical middle of the trilogy book. Some parts were answered and the book progessed albeit more slowly in terms of where the story as a whole was going to end up. I found the book to be easy to read and while I enjoyed the story...the trilogy seems to be lacking. I think its because the premise of the story is so large, there were so many ways the story could end up or be told, that I feel like some parts where either explained away too quickly and left behind.

when my amazon order-arrived on my porch at exactly 2.00 pm in the afternoon, i opened the door and stepped outside to pick it up. then i opened it, several minutes later and sat on a very comfy sofa by the window and started reading, i could not put it down. and read for several hours,i finished it later that night and said wow!!
that was amazing!!!

the plotline was as amazing as divergent, maybe even a little bit better and the romance, swoons!!!!!!!!!!!! i loved it. tris and four have become one of my favorite YA couples, even though they disagree they just look at each other and makes you want to yell MAKE OUT, NOW! , the action, the pacing and the reveals..INCLUDING WHO WAS THE TRAITER who told someone that she is divergent which was really shocking!!! i even did not see that coming or the cliffhanger which i was amazed by. i loved it, even though i was shocked by the ending. this book trilogy is right on par with the Hunger Games trilogy, this book has quickly become one of my favorites

It's not very often that I like the second book in a series better than the first. I feel like the second book far exceeded my expectations. I couldn't put it down. Tris is raw. While there are many soft moments between her and Tobias, much of the novel describes her internal and external conflict. The book also ends at a suspenseful point. Can't wait for book three!

The Book is a must-read for every Divergent Lover- Gripping plot and interesting twists. The fonts and the pages were in perfect condition. The only problem was AMAZON PACKAGE in which it was delivered. Please do not use Paper Covers to deliver books as it cause creases and multiple folds on the book.

The series is kind of tough to get through and isn’t as fast paced as I would like to be. The movies are very good tho, so that means the plot is good so if you are patient then you’ll probably enjoy reading the books more than I did.

This is the second book in the Divergent trilogy by Roth; the third book is still untitled at this time and will be released in 2013. This was an absolutely fantastic follow-up to Divergent. Although not as ground-breaking it does a good job of throwing some new twists at the reader.

Tris is still reeling from the events that happened at the end of Divergent. She is trying to cope with the loss of her mother, killing Will, and a multitude of other issues. The factions are broken and trying to take sides. Tris and company are trying to prevent the Eudites from attacking more factions, while at the same time trying to figure out who is right and what is really going on.

This book is hard to describe for me because I just got so completely sucked into the story. There is something about Roth's writing that made it impossible for me to stop reading this book...I just keep turning pages. I ended up reading this in a little over a day; it was such an easy and fun book to read.

To be honest I didn't like this quite as much as Divergent, but then I would have given Divergent 10 stars if I could. Where Divergent introduced a really neat dystopian concept, this book was more about dealing with the aftermath of a society that's falling apart.

Tris is a wonderful character. She makes mistakes, but she is just so resilient. She is pushed to the breaking point both emotionally and physically in this book and yet still she survives. Four is back as well and features in much of the story. He is another great character, although there are parts of his personality that are hard to like in this book.

I really enjoyed watching all of the different factions mix. They learn to tolerate each others' habits and/or preferences; you can also see all of the characters learning to respect the strengths of each faction and how each faction is necessary for society to work as a whole.

I didn't enjoy Tris and Four's lying to each other. They both want to be in a relationship but their constant lying to each other gets old quick. They recognize the problem, but never seem to make much headway on it. When Four's mom enters the story (and wow is she something) things get even worse. We do get a lot of background on Four and his family in this book as well which helped to add more depth to his character.

The story around the Divergent and the effort to explain the Divergent state more, is very interesting and made for good reading. There are some super awesome surprises and twists at the end of the story; they caught me by surprise and were really intriguing.

As with the previous book this is a super engaging and fast-paced read. There are a ton of very well done action scenes and the storyline never stops; seriously the pace of this book will leave you feeling breathless at times.

Overall an absolutely wonderful continuation of this series. I loved watching the factions merge and loved how they were forced to work together. I love Tris and how she is such a survivor. I didn't enjoy her and Four's relationship as much in this book; there just isn't much trust between them. I loved some of the twists and turns. Roth's writing absolutely pulls you into the story, the action is non-stop, and the book is super hard to put down. Highly recommended for fans of action-packed dystopian reads.
