The international travel review platform TripAdvisor released its Travellers’ Choice awards for Top Destinations on the Rise, and Lima is the No. 9 according to millions of travelers from around the world.
Topped by Tulum (Mexico), the list breaks down the favorite places on earth among travelers. Cartagena (Colombia) ranked second and the third place was taken by Porto (Portugal).
The other seven spots —listed in order—include: Gatlinburg (Tennessee), Moscow (Russia), Brighton (United Kingdom), New Delhi (India), Banff (Alberta), Lima (Peru) and Foz do Iguazu (Brazil).

“Explore ancient Incan archeological sites, or stroll through the elegant cathedrals and opulent palaces dating from Spanish colonial times. Downtown Lima is crowded, but you'll enjoy exploring the city's neighborhoods—especially the beachfront areas, which have great shopping and dining and fabulous hotels,” the travel portal suggests.
In addition to that, the website named the Top Destinations on the Rise across South America, where Lima (Peru) takes second place after Cartagena (Colombia), which leads the list.
This list is complemented by: Foz do Iguazu (Brazil), Medellin (Colombia), Ubatuba (Brazil), Ushuaia (Argentina), El Calafate (Argentina), Montevideo (Uruguay), Pucon (Chile) and Valparaíso (Chile) —all ranked in order.
