GASTONIA, N.C. – A North Carolina woman has life-threatening injuries after police said she crashed into a stopped tractor-trailer while distracted by her cell phone.

The Charlotte Observer reported that Aundrea Parsons, 37, of Charlotte, crashed into the stopped tractor-trailer Sunday morning in Gastonia.

“It is believed Ms. Parsons was distracted by her cell phone by trying to make a call at the time of the collision,” Gastonia police said in a prepared statement.

The tractor-trailer was pulled over on the side of a highway with the hazard lights on when Parsons crashed into it.

The tractor-trailer was pulled over because the driver had just been involved in a different wreck, according to police.

Parsons was driving a 2006 Chevrolet HHR and showed no signs of braking when she hit the tractor-trailer, according to Gastonia police.

She was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries and then airlifted to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, according to the Charlotte Observer. The driver of the tractor-trailer was not hurt.
