This fall, the look for jeans is all about distressed and ripped details.  For the past couple of months I’ve been wearing 3 pairs of black & denim ripped jeans at least twice a week.  Yes, I do wash them regularly and they are at a point where more rips are tearing naturally due to wear and tear.

Not only do ripped jeans make me feel younger and free-spirited each time, there’s something unruly and rebellious about wearing them.

I recently received an email from one of my readers about wearing ripped jeans in her 40s; is it appropriate or not?  I personally think that style has no age limit so you can wear whatever you want as long as you feel great and confident in them.

The key to look pulled together in ripped jeans but not look like you’re trying too hard is keep everything else simple.  This will look effortless and edgy.

Outfit Details:

Cullen Cashmere Turtleneck (old, similar style for $79)
H&M Super Skinny Distressed Jeans
Loeffler Randall Lace Up Flats (love these for $89!)
Reed Krakoff Handbag
Burberry Sunnies

  1. Janise,

That was me! I told you I’d be back! 🙂

I bought those ripped pants (you look fabulous by the way – they look great on you – the whole outfit) but have not worn them yet – they’re a light gray (much like the ones you’re wearing in your other post http://www.mamainheels.com/2015/11/23/grey-can-never-go-wrong/). I’m waiting to find the right shoes/shirt to wear with them, inspired by the look you put together.

My other question on this is – is it OK to wear them tight? Yours look somewhat easy/lose/relaxed. The ones I bought are tight and show my hips and butt. I actually don’t mind having hips and a butt, and they are not too tight by the ankle so they are more flattering than skinny on me. But still, they’re tight…so I’m wondering if it will make it look like I’m trying too hard?

Would love to hear your thoughts on this!

    Thanks 🙂

      Hi Gina 🙂

I think they are absolutely fine! And you should show your best assets (no pun intended!). If you don’t want to show your hips or butt you can always wear a top that can cover that area – you know, some days we just don’t feel like showing anything and that’s natural.

      Thank you for stopping by!

      • OK! 🙂

I’m excited about wearing them now!

(and yes, good point – I can always get a long shirt for days when I don’t feel like showing it all. So simple yet why can’t I come up with these answers on my own? :/ )

        Thank you!

  2. I am a big fan of ripped jeans. You all black look is so chic, I love how you pair it with the blue bag, so stylish. Cute shoes too!
