The Speculative Fictions web browser extension for Chrome and Mozilla replaces fossil fuel-related terms with language from the realms of science fiction and fantasy. Sci-fi and fantasy have been effective vehicles of social commentary since their inception. The distance provided by these stories helps to return strangeness to what has become ordinary. This extension leverages terms from the milieu of speculative fiction in order to bring absurdity, commentary, humor, strangeness, and disbelief to the current state of our oil-based economy.
