Delhi: 28,000 EWS seats allotted through computerised draw

Sisodia said 73,000 applications were received. “Many parents may opt out. Then the same process will be repeated to allots the remaining seats,” said Sisodia.

The Delhi government Monday allotted 28,000 seats through computerised draws under the EWS (economically weaker section) category for nursery admissions in private schools.

Advocating the use of technology, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said, “We should give power to technology… There are 1.5 lakh students who go to private schools… Out of this, we have made life easier for at least 25,000 parents. Parents have to usually make rounds to schools for admission. Today, the admissions process was completed in an hour.”

Sisodia said 73,000 applications were received. “Many parents may opt out. Then the same process will be repeated to allots the remaining seats,” said Sisodia.

Sisodia added that government has made things easier for private schools as they can now verify the income certificate online.

Parents just have to bring printouts of the application form, two photographs, a self-attested photocopy of proof of birth, residence and other relevant certificates.

Festive offer

Sisodia also issued an advisory to schools. “Parents are coming to you with hope. Your behaviour should be cooperative…,” he added.

He asked private schools to cooperate with the government.

“Tell us about the issues you face. We will improve that. We will give you money to pay for uniforms and books of EWS category students. We will find a formula so that money won’t be misused… We can work with cooperation… If my intervention is required, bring it to me,” he added.
