Cornish wrestling returns to Bodmin
Bodmin's Beacon wrestling ring hosted Cornish wrestling for the first time since the 1960s last weekend. The event saw wrestlers compete in an open category, alongside under-16, under-14 and under-12 competitions. Cornish wrestling is done standing up, with competitors aiming to throw the opponent onto their back. The Beacon ring was one of Cornwall's top arenas during the 19th century, with crowds regularly coming to see the county's top wrestlers in action. Mike Cawley, chairman of the Cornish Wrestling Association told BBC Spotlight about the excitement of a fight.

"You shake hands with a bloke and he is the most important thing in your world then," he said. "It doesn't matter who's shouting from the crowd, all the experts are outside, it's in there and you've got to wrestle. "He knows his game and you know your game and you might not do any moves for five minutes and bang - there it is." Bodmin's mayor Maggie Denholm added: "I am absolutely delighted that this old tradition form of sport has come back to us during my years as mayor."
