THE PUPPET

Borrow the bike. Win the race. Collect the cash. It should've been an easy job. Ran out of town with a broken leg and a lawsuit, my mother's latest flame swoops in like a knight in gilded armor. Blackwood Keep is a place I don't belong, and I'm not the only one who knows. To the boy across the hall, my savior's only son, I'm a stray looking for a bone.

He's lord of the manor.
King of the academy.
And number one on my shit list.

THE PEER

I have no intentions of becoming a happy family with the social climber and her wild daughter. A bottle of Jameson and a cracked skull gets my problem shipped to reform school, but I didn't bank on her returning.

Four's out to get even, and she almost had the perfect plan: expose the privileged kid moonlighting as a gangbanger. She's smart, but she'll have to be smarter. Sending her away won't be good enough this time. I'm going to have to tame the little troublemaker. To the girl across the hall, the one without a name, I'm nothing without my silver spoon.

She's lady of the trailer park.
Queen of the swamps.
And my new favorite pastime.

The Peer and the Puppet is a standalone romance, however, the series is one story. The plot introduced in Four and Ever's story will continue in the following novels. Content suitable for 18+.

KITTY KATS CRAZY ABOUT BOOKS

Guys the wait for this one was worthwhile!! It quickly went from a 5 star read and escalated to one of my favourite ones for this year..Saying I loved this is an understatement, get ready for one crazy angsty ride!!

‘THE PEER AND THE PUPPET’ is the first full length, New Adult novel in B.B.Reids ’s ‘When Rivals Play' series. In this we meet Ever McNamara and Four Archer.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Four's dreams have never wavered from wanting to race professionally. In the opening chapter we see what seventeen year old Four normally does, and something that should’ve gone off without a hitch, but that’s not the case, borrow the bike like normal, win the race as per usual, fourteen to be precise. Collect the cash, but not in this case. She's pissed off some very dangerous men. Now she’s been shipped off to Blackwood Keep along with her mother and her new beau Thomas and his son Ever.

From the get go I was hooked, that very first page the author lured me in, I couldn’t, didn’t want to, and didn’t put it down. ‘The Peer and the Puppet’ was everything I could’ve hoped for and more.

To say the first time Ever and Four meet didn't go off without a hitch is an understatement, she kicks him in the balls and from that point onwards it's game on, neither likes the other, neither hold back their dislike for each other which makes for an interesting ride. Four isn't your typical female, she's made of tougher things, and Never's met his match when it comes to her, she doesn't back down, so these two are at loggerheads continuously. Neither back down.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

'The Peer and The Puppet' was utter perfection! Un-put-downable, unpredictable, unique, unquestionably good, unbelievably became one of my favourites quickly.

Mega angst, drama galore, affinity feels, anyone like myself who reads this I swear you will love this book to the moon and back. There is nothing I would change about this book, seconds, minutes, hours ceased to exist, once you start this you’ll never want it to end. My review, my words, does not give this book the justice it deserves.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

If you’ve read the paper princess or tijan’s fallen crest high series then I swear you will love this book wholeheartedly as this runs in similar lines as those, but definitely stands out on a class of its own.

Two thumbs up, highly recommend, definitely one click come release day....

Teen drama. Angst central. A badass heroine. An even badder ass hero!
Bebe Reid excels at writing NA that makes me wish I could do high school all over again with her entire cast of characters! I freaking loved it!

Here's the breakdown: Four's badass behavior lands her in a situation that leads her mother to decide they need a change of scenario. Her mother has a plan and soon they move into a life altering position, where she meets Ever. Her new nemesis and pseudo step-brother. The love/hate relationship between these two is EPIC!

What I loved: E V E R!! If here were any way I could have him in real life, I'd make it happen. I loved both main characters.
The secondary characters nearly stole the show. Vaughn and Jamie are as enigmatic and magnetic as EVER.
The setup for future stories is on point. I absolutely cannot wait for more. Like, I'm legit asking the author for any tidbits.
B.B. Reid’s signature style shines through with this sexy and angst’s coming of age tale. I was immediately captivated by the main characters! She writes the larger than life characters so well!

So....In a word----Perfection! Highly Recommended!

basic premise: hick girl's mother falls for rich man with douche bag son. nothing real new right? you'd be wrong.

hick girl is named four. douche bag son is named ever. four. ever. i want to gag. jokes aside, this shit was the most convoluted and ridiculous thing i've read this year. ever is constantly blackmailing, teasing, and trying to force himself on four. four might think ever is hot but she genuinely seems to want nothing to do with him... yet entertains his advances??

other fun stuff: ever has a girlfriend who he's dating for some reason but has never done anything with and we're led to believe he's protecting her for some reason? her name is GENUINELY barbette. they call her barbie.

to top it all off, ever is part of some sort of gang that his best friend's dad is a part of. he quits the school football team and foregoes his cushy life to join a gang. so believable.

if this all sounds disjointed, imagine how i felt reading this shit. it was like a train wreck i couldn't look away from.

overall: pretty cover, horrid book. no thank you.

B.B. Reid made it again. I loved the “Broken Love” series.
I can’t wait to read more about Four-Ever till they find their happy ending forever!
Second book of the series might be about Lou and Harlen. But I’m curious to read more about the other couples. Especially Jamie and Barbie’s story intrigued me.
I hope I don’t have to wait too long!!!

really? i mean- really...? Four (h) + Ever (H) = fOuREveR

i don't know about y'all but the only acceptable character who's named after a number is my husband #129483: Theo James aka Four aka Tobias Eaton, but ok whatever. i understand why she was named "Four" but still.

this is being compared to paper princess because of the whole step-sibling rivalry trope but i can't say anything about this comparison since i've never even read said book so sorry about that. but anyways, if y'all are in the mood for:
『 step-sibling, forbidden, rich and entitled H, a lot of push and pull and cute banter with a lot of show instead of telling, less plot driven and more character moments, and overall very c h i l l book. 』

then i recommend this.

i really do get why some people hated this while others loved it cuz that was me the entire time so imma just list out what worked and what didn't:

☞︎ l i k e s ☜︎
↠ the banter/push and pull is what i really liked in this book. personally, i love long books just because i know there's gonna be a lot of showing rather than telling and that's what happened here. im pretty sure all the interactions between MCs were shown instead of pulling a fade-to-black move or time jumps (which i find annoying). there were time jumps here, though, it only occurred when Four and Ever didn't interact at all. also, Ever was kinda sweet?? he always made up for his shitty behavior (baking Four a cake, buying her a new phone, standing up for her just so she can pursue her passion, etc.) and i appreciated that BUT he was an asshole in the last 20-ish% even though he "grovelled" but did he really? idk.

↠ the side characters and friendship moments were one of the highlights too! i actually liked the future Hs & hs here even though i know they're ruined in their own books (ex: jamie & barbie/bee/barbette/bette and vaughn & tyra) in the future since apparently there's cheating, low key incest sexual encounter, and unnecessary group sex that almost comes off as queer baiting, which is a big no no for me. but i really did love the friendships between the characters especially Jamie's & Four's.

↠ again, this was just super chill so there's not much to worry here when it comes to safety (except for a little bit of OW drama and unnecessary OM drama near the end). i know there was a plot about this gang called Exiled but in all honesty, i skipped those scenes cuz they were irrelevant to me, and frankly, i didn't care. they're probably important later on in the series but oh well.

☞︎ d i s l i k e s ☜︎
↠ the Exiled gang. i have no idea what this gang is about and how relevant they really are but i. don't. care. sorry!!

↠ the fake relationship between H & OW served no purpose to the main plot whatsoever. it didn't even add any angst since (spoiler) pretty early on, Ever told us it was all fake and he did it to protect the OW (!). i really think it was just there for the introduction of that OW, Barbie/Bee/Barbette/Bette and Jamie's story. also, this wasn't even a barrier in the MCs relationship. the h didn't care at all and the H definitely gave zero f's. this drama was literally used in the last 20% just so there's a reason for the MCs to "break up". (spoiler) he asks the OW to marry him a day after the MCs have sex for the first time (!). also, as for OM drama, what happened to Michael? that drama at the end was so unnecessary.

Jamie (H's cousin) had unlikable traits cuz apparently he lOvEs Barbie/Bee/Barbette/Bette but then shoves his OW sexcapades in her face. there were so many scenes of this here and im not really down to read their book since apparently Barbie/Bee/Barbette/Bette gives in too easily.

↠ the "hate" or "rivalry" that MCs had. they barely hated each other. Ever was honestly just hot and cold most of the time but BOTH of them give in too easily with one another. i don't mind this cuz i don't hate the characters.

↠ the incomplete storylines & unanswered questions annoyed me!! like, where is Ever's mom? is Thomas really his dad? Rosalyn and Four's relationship, what's up with that? fake relationship with OW still going on?? so Four is gonna be Ever's side chick until when?!

↠ aaand the names. they're just weird ok? i mean Barbette? Four? EVER? no. just- no.

________________________________

anyways, it was actually kinda hard for me to choose whether or not this is a 4-star rating or a 3-star one since i actually did enjoy all the mundane things the characters did BUT idk. i guess it depends on one's mood so imma stick with my "neutral rating" aka "idfk how to rate this book".

i can't wait to read Lou & Wren's book cuz apparently theirs is the best but the last two books arent... should i or should i not read the last two?? i really don't want Ever & Four to be ruined since apparently they participate in group sex in Jamie & Barbie/Bee/Barbette/Bette book. hmm... idk. maybe if i feel like being a masochist in the future i'll read them but right now? nahh.

*** 3.5 Stars!!!***

I have to say I was expecting a way more exciting book... I found it to be slow at times and not a lot of anything was going on at times. I didn’t dislike Four and Ever’s story, I just felt that a lot of issues that were brought up never did get fixed... nor did questions get answered. An example of this would be when Ever ( our hero) said he had some dirt on Four’s ( heroine) Mom, we never discovered what he had on her??? Also, the push and pull of Four and Ever’s relationship drove me insane. One minute he was sweet to her, the next he was a grade A jerk!

There was good to some of the story though. I enjoyed Ever’s cousin Jamie! He was a hoot and I do look forward to his book! I am somewhat curious as to what is going to come in this world. I just hope that there will be more things that will happen... and some secrets revealed would be nice. There was a ton of insinuating that there were secrets but nothing really came to light.

There is a second book out already and I will end up reading it... I just hope the excitement level will be turned up a few notches!!!

I recommend to readers who love enemy to lover romance!!!

“Ever and I weren’t a thing. We were a giant meteor heading straight for Earth with nothing in its path to stop it.”

B.B. Reid has the extraordinary ability to perfectly capture the adolescent experience, even in unrealistic ways. Her stories bring me back to my youth and remind me of who I was and how I acted. It's not always a pretty picture, but it's always fun. I used to think I was invincible, all-powerful and all-knowing. And watching these characters act like that was beyond entertaining.

Four Archer - The Puppet - was her own person. She loved to ride, she loved to race, and she felt that she had her life and her future all figured out. Until an accident blows up in her face in more ways than one and she and her mom are moved into her mother's latest lover's mansion. It's a new way of life for a girl who was used to struggling and finding her own hustle. A life full of prep schools, uniforms, expensive cars, and snobby peers. But Four's a survivor and she's adept at rolling with the punches. But what she never counted on, or rather who, was Ever.

Ever McNamara - The Peer - was a force of nature. Underneath his stoic and fierce countenance was a heart of gold. He was inherently kind and considerate, loyal and honorable, and he was absolutely incredible. At first he considers Four his nemesis and treats her as such. He makes her life hard to enjoy and eventually proves how far he's willing to go to be rid of her. What he never counted on was how much Four would come to mean to him. She became his everything.

Amidst the drama and angst normally found in teenage romance, a mature love started to bloom. It was intense, it was heavy, and it was so freaking hot! I'm not a huge fan of the ending because there is so much more to this story and I don't believe there was enough resolution to Four and Ever's tale, but I'm also very interested in seeing more of Jamie. He was a fantastic side character and deserves to be in the spotlight as well. So I'll be staying tuned to continue reading more about these intricate and complex characters.

Would you like to know the difference between you and I, little troublemaker? You run from your demons. I chase mine.”

Oh the angst! The sweet, sweet, never ending angst of it all! How I love it! How I crave it! And BB Reid packs one hell of an angsty punch with this book. I have no idea why on earth it took me this long to read it!

I feel like I'm always looking for a book that reminds me of Bully or Paper Princess and coming up short. Either the angst is too manufactured, it filled with silly drama, or I just don't buy into the romance. I had NONE of those issues here. I was immediately hooked by the story of a troublemaking heroine that loves to race motorcycles who gets uprooted to the upper crust when her mother begins dating a rich man. Thrown into the entitled and ruthless underbelly of the rich elite, Four finds herself in the crosshairs of her new housemate. The girl from the wrong side of the tracks meets the popular and rich boy that runs the school and has secrets and an agenda of his own? What could possibly go wrong?

I loved the premise of this story and it only continued to reel me in further with every page that I read. I love a strong and sassy heroine and Four definitely delivered on that front. As a matter of fact, all the characters, including the secondary ones, were well developed and multi-layered. But of course Four and Ever stole center stage with their back and forth hate lust that they had going on. Neither is who they seem and their banter and insult field dance around each other only managed to stoke the fire between them.
I’m tired of fighting this.” I now had her trapped against the door with my hips pressed against hers. “Tell me what I need to do to have you. I’ll break bones.” I punctuated the vow with a kiss on her neck. “Ruin reputations…” Her body shivered when I trailed lower. “Destroy futures...I just need you to be mine.”

There's a lot more to this book than just a romance. I'd probably describe it as more of a saga than a standalone. While you get a different couple in the next book, there's just too many questions that are left unanswered here for me to consider it a standalone. Did I enjoy it? THOROUGHLY. Will I be reading the next book? I'm utterly RAVENOUS for it.

I loved the story of Ever and Four. And while I did find that at times they acted and spoke much older than their high school years, I couldn't get enough of them. I loved Four's tenacity and perseverance almost as much as I loved Ever's intensity and ruthlessness. I loved that Four gives as well as she gets and I couldn't get enough of the banter between them. I was immediately hooked by ALL of the secondary characters; Vaughn and Wren being at the forefront.

This was my first BB Reid book and I'm an instant fan! Now bring on the next book!!

Overall Opinion: I made myself only skim the 5 star raving reviews for this because I didn't want to get my hopes up. While I'm glad I did and went in pretty blind, I also was disappointed that I didn't love it like so many other readers seemed to. The ending was pretty non-existent to where I am even hesitating to label it as "HFN". I get that they're young (and I often have this problem with YA/NA books), but there were so many unanswered questions in the end that I found it really frustrating. The characters were alright, but I didn't feel like they were anything new or exciting. I kind of wish there was more of Four's tomboy ways incorporated tbh. I didn't hate it, but I didn't love it either and it won't be finding its home on my favorites shelf. Just an okay 3 star read for me.

Brief Summary of the Storyline: This is Four and Ever's story. Four finds herself in enough trouble that her mom has them move to another town to live with her current boyfriend. What Four doesn't expect is that the boyfriend has a son her age that will make her life a living hell. Ever is on a mysterious mission and he doesn't need his dad's new flavor's daughter ruining things for him. They have a hate-to-love relationship, there are some hot sexy times, and a few suspenseful scenes....and they get a HFN ending.

POV: This alternated between Four and Ever's POV.

Overall Pace of Story: Good until the end. I never skimmed and thought it flowed well otherwise.

Instalove: No. Instalust and intrigue? Yes.

H rating: 3.5 stars. Ever. He was jerk but also sweet when he wanted to be. I just didn't agree with his behavior some of the time and wanted him to grovel more.

h rating: 3 stars. Four. I liked her, but I didn't like the way she caved to the H so easily at times. She definitely had golden penis syndrome!

Sadness level: Low, no tissues needed

Push/Pull: Yes

Heat level: Hot. They have some hot tension, chemistry, and scenes -- but not so much it takes away from the story.

Descriptive sex: Yes

OW/OM drama: Yes

Sex scene with OW or OM: No

Cheating: Yes

Separation: Not in my opinion, because they were never technically together.

Possible Triggers: Yes

Closure: This ended abruptly with what I would (barely) call a HFN ending. I was definitely worried when the h , but that got (kind of) resolved and they moved on. They share "ILYs" and that's about it -- still a lot of unanswered questions that I figure will be addressed in later books of the series.

Safety: This one is probably Not Safe for most safety gang readers depending on personal preferences.

If you’re into sexy unrepentant @$$h013 bad boys, let me tell you a bit about Ever. He’s got quite the chip on his shoulder, some daddy issues, and a new lady in his life that did not get to be there by choice but who definitely makes his life for interesting. He’s the puppeteer peer to Four’s puppet.

Four might be his puppet out of necessity and for her emotional survival but she will not let him pull the strings any way he likes. She’s got this air about her that makes you question who really is in control in their interesting relationship.

The plot was very interesting and the development was executed very well. The writing and pacing is solid all around. I am absolutely dying to read the stories for the secondary characters. The set up for them has me tapping a vein in preparation for the next hit of awesome. Bebe can’t write fast enough! ;)

Safety: This one would be pushing up against those boundaries. No rape or abuse. Story contains issues concerning mental health.

This book is a total crap.

There wasn't any chemistry between the protagonists. Their rivalry was silly and didn't make sense to me. The plot was dull, nothing was actually happening. This book was boring,

I LOVED this one so so so much!!! I was so looking forward to it!
As all my friends know I LOVE enemies to lovers! It's also hard to write it and Queen B.B. did it beautifuly!

There were lots of moments thzt I was giggling and squeeling like a little girl (It's a rare thing for me)
The story didn't end with this one it will continue in the other books. Which makes it exciting and irritating as well, because we need to be patient..

It gave me such happiness! For the ones that know a bit of me know I'm still having a hard time, so happiness is rare and doesn't last. But this one gave me that, so they will forever be special to me!!

Thank you BB for sharing this story with us!!

Got this signed beauty for our 10 year anniversary!

***4 "Once upon a puppet..." stars***

{Okay!!!! This gif is kind of... scary!!!}

“You were never worthy of my strings.”

I had such a long time to read a book by B.B. Reid, even though the "Broken Love" series are from my favorites and Keiran will always be the A$$ of my heart!!!!
And of course, the author made me fall in love with another one series of hers!!!! Yeah, I know that I'm still in the first book, but in two weeks will be released the second one and I already know too many things about the rest of the gang and I can not wait to learn everything about them... I simply can not wait!!!!!

"You're a curse, Ever Mcnamara."
"Then you must be the spell to break me."

Well, this story reminded me a bit of the "broken love" series... No, in certain things, but in a more general way!!! It gave me those vibes again and it grabbed me almost instantly...
Okay, the beginning was a little bit rocky and it confused me, but when i dove more into the story, i just couldn't stop reading!!!
It's a fuckin' mess!!! So many stories are going on at the same time and you want to learn so much more for each one of the characters... Yep, the Peer and his Puppet were the protagonists in here, but their story didn't end with the ending of this book...
So, if you want to read any of the books in the series, you should read them with the right order!!!!

“Ever and I weren’t a thing. We were a giant meteor heading straight for Earth with nothing in its path to stop it.”

And now about the Peer and the Puppet....
The puppet aka. Four Archer is a badass girl who loves to ride bikes and to run in illegal races, but her dream is for one day to go to pros...
And her love for racing will be exactly the thing that will cause her troubles, since her mother will take her to live with her new, rich boyfriend and his son, Ever...
The peer aka. Ever McNamara is a priviledeg little prick who he thinks that he is the king of the world... His world!!! He is determined to not let the maid's daughter survive in his world!!!
From the first moment that those two have met, everything are going to hell... They constantly pulling and pushing each other around and the results aren't the best...

"You constantly bring up my family's money as if it's what truly seperates us. Would you like to know the difference between you and I, little troublemaker? You run from your demons. I chase mine."

A year later, Four is returning back home and she is determined to get even with Ever, since he was the one responsible to sent her away the previous year...
Now, she is back and she wants to fight back... But Ever is coming closer.... In the beginning with manipulation and then with lust...
But the things are very complicated to both their lives...
And as closer as they get, there were always some things that they're tearing them apart...
There is a chance for them, after all???

“You feel like you're mine", he growled in my ear. "Are you mine?"
"I'm yours."
"That can't be true," he taunted. "My girl would do what she's told.”

"I can't stay away from you. I'm trying, Four, believe me. I try so fucking hard, but you keep pulling me in."
"Rest assured it's not on purpose. I pull you in, you push me away. I never wanted this war, Ever. You did. Why should I be the only one with scars?"
"I push you away because you don't know what you do to me and I'm not sure I want you to know."

Well, i loved both Four and Ever... Strangely, Ever less than her...
She was a girl that she could chew you out and she was strong and determined... I liked how she wasn't backing down in Ever's demands... and when she did, it was because it was her choice... Four fell hard for Ever, but he was breaking her heart over and over again...
Ever was a prick, most of the times... Underneath, he wasn't bad and he was fiercely loyal to the people that he was loving, but his behavior toward Four wasn't always the best and not only at the beginning...
He was so frustrating... Hot and cold all the damn time and he was giving me a headache!!!!

"Four was smart but naive. Stubborn yet delfless. Fierce yet broken. And she could hold one hell of a grudge. She was pretty without being obvious, yet she made my dick harder than any girl had before. The cherry on top was how she made me feel alive again."

"Your secrets didn't break me, Ever. You did. You're warm one day and cold the next. Just when I believe I'm your everything, you treat me like I'm nothing."

The thing between them was hot and very anticipating...
Their bickering was delightful and i was waiting like crazy for their next encounter...
I loved how they were between them, even though they were hurting each other all the damn time!!!
Of course, i can not wait for how will play out the rest of their story in the next books...

"We could have been friends, you know. You didn't have to hate me."
"It wouldn't have mattered, princess. I would have fallen for you anyway."

And now, I'm waiting for the next book like crazy, even though Wren and Lou were just passing by from the first book, and there were other people in here that i need their stories more...
But I'm very curious about the Moth and his Flame...
And of course, i can not wait for Jamie and Barbie's turn or Vaugh and Ty-Ty's story!!!!!
Arrrr... I need all of them ASAP!!!! I'm dying here!!!!

{I'm imagining Wren and Lou like them...}

"Wren Harlan was a force to be reckoned with, and anyone who had his loyalty would be unstoppable." {Ever}

***First read - 9th Feb, 2019***

***Re-read - 5th May, 2020***

B.B Reid has talent for writing bully, anti-hero kind of romances with high school drama including the main characters having enigmatic background. This is my second re-read and I was absorbed in the book better than the first time. And I loved it again.

Ever and Four, these names were absurd but, the absurdness evaporated at how blending the author gives us the history of their names. A snobby hero with a loyal heart and a heroine with firecracker personality and who thinks she has her future figured out. Both begins as nemesis. Four was uprooted from her home by her mother and both comes to live with her mother's boyfriend who is rich and has a son sumilar to Four's age, Ever. Ever thinks Four and her mother are gold-digging tramps and makes Four life hell. What he never knew was how much Four would mean to him. Four and Ever's relationship was angsty and hot. The plot was multi-layered, and there are some lose ends even if its a standalone book.

~ First review ~

Here I'm awake at night (3:40am) or hello morning!
This book has almost all the necessary ingredients I love.
This story potrays a badass heroine and even badder hero (totally a-hole) sucked up in teen drama, featuring enemies to lovers, forbidden romance. The secondary characters are totally facinating and I'm expecting (hopefully) stories of their own. This book has me hooked. It is definitely a 5 brightest star page-turner book.

I received an eARC from the author in exchange for an honest review.

5+ FourEver Stars!
”From beginning to end, this read was intense, intriguing, exciting and fantastically written. Not to mention, seductive and sexy!”

The Review:
I love this author’s work. I’m a huge fan. But I have to admit, I think The Peer and the Puppet is her best work to date! I haven't been this pumped about a book in a long while. Thank you B.B. Reid. Book funk, GONE!

From the moment this book opens up, I was H.O.O.K.E.D! Once I started it, I absolutely couldn’t put it down and read straight through to the climatic end. I ignored all of life’s chaos for one blissful day and reveled in the euphoria of reading Ever and Four’s story.

No lie, this book is straight up the holy grail of reading for 2018! Outstanding doesn't even come close to describing it for me.

High angsts.
Intense drama.
Sexy, rebellious heroine.
Broody, hardcore ass-hero.
Amazing side characters.
Phenomenal story!

A MUST READ!

Story/Characters...
This book opens up with our heroine being a badass! Sixteen-year-old Four Archer is a loner who likes going fast and crushing the competition. But after a night of fun in the small town of Cherry, that ended with a crashed “borrowed” bike, a broken leg and a threat at gunpoint by a member from the notorious east coast gang Exiled, Fours’ moms uses the excuse to whisk her away to her lovers mansion in Blackwood Keep, Connecticut. She’s suddenly pulled from a blue-collar existence to live and mingle with the rich and entitled. The moment she spots her new “step-brother”, it’s an instant attraction and an immediate hate.

The puppet has just met her peer.

Ever McNamara is broody, intense, privileged and has no time for his father's new family. The moment he lays eyes on Four, he hates her on sight. But he can’t help but be drawn to her too. Something about her makes him act up but also makes him feel alive again.

The peer has just met his puppet.

But Ever has a plan that doesn’t involve the distraction of Four and he needs her out of his way, fast. So he uses an opportunity to get rid of her, despite how much he wants to keep her. When she returns, the game is back on and it’s a no holds bar war of revenge and temptation.

WOW! These two were so much fun! Trust me, you won't be able to help yourself. You’re going to love them as much as I did.

This book also has AMAZING side characters and I can’t wait for each of their stories! The author made me fall in love with them ALL!

There’s also a storm brewing in the background. Secrets, lies, rivals and huge reveals. There are sub-characters and subplots galore! At every turn, there’s something new.

Like I said... a must read!

My thoughts...
Four and Ever had amazing chemistry and a fiery passion that couldn’t be denied, no matter how much they tried. I loved Four. Her character was unique, solid and her no-shits-to-give attitude was perfection. She was a fighter. Ever was the ultimate anguished mean boy but you just can’t help but fall in love with his assholery, because behind it all, there’s a deeper pain he’s struggling with.

This was a complete story and call me a greedy bitch, but I can’t help but want more...

More Blackwood Keep.
More Exiled.
More Peer and his Puppet.
More of ALL the characters. They all STOLE. MY. HEART!
More drama.
More angsts.
More sexual tension between two opposing forces.
More heart flutters.
More chest pangs.

More everything this read gave me!

This was a layered, multi-dimensional story with fascinating characters. There was something constantly going on. No lulls or slow moments at all. It flowed brilliantly from one sentence to the next. The pace was perfection. And past two reluctant, strong-willed lovers battling it out, there’s a much bigger story at play. In true B.B. Reid fashion, there’s danger, manipulation, complications, attraction, fear, torment and trickery with an intricate, wide-arching story that’s going to span over several books.

I can’t wait for the next!

Wish list...
I know we’ll see Four and Ever again, but I want more of their story. There’s more to uncover and their journey isn’t done. I want... no, NEED, to know what comes next for them.

The Wrap Up:
From beginning to end, this read was intense, intriguing, exciting and fantastically written. Not to mention, seductive and sexy! At my age, I kinda felt pervy for crushing on an 18-year-old hottie, but I’d gladly cackle like a lunatic all the way to hell if it meant loving Ever all the way down.
If you’re a fan of reading, you’re going to love this book! Simple as that.

5 Need More CROWNS

We might have been waiting for the first book in the When Rivals Play series from B.B. Reid for some time, but it was worth the wait.  Reid delivered filled with some intrigue and mystery and lust filled and I hate you tension that I couldn't put this down.

Ever is such a jerk, a sexy, delicious, I couldn't control myself jerk. He is the king of his Prep school and rules over his kingdom. He toys and plays with Four for a good portion of the book, leading her on and pushing her back. He lusts for her but knows he is no good for her at the same time.  Like most teens, he struggles with grabbing what he wants right now with what he knows is good for him or the people he cares about. As the story develops, Reid develops a bit of compassion for Ever as we learn about his past and see him soften towards Four. It will be interesting to see how his story will be threaded with the other three books in the series.

Four is a teen girl who struggles with her attraction to a man who is so vile towards her. There are many times that Ever and his friends cross the line when it comes to Four, but like most girls, she comes back to him when he decides to play nice. Heck, readers can't blame her because most of them would want to go back to him.  The man oozes power and virility that draws you in. What I did love most about Four, though, is that she doesn't change who she is or what she is passionate about.  She also has a limit. While Ever does a lot to her, when she has enough, she has no problem coming out swinging and challenging him at every turn.

This story has two plots - a romantic one between Ever and Four that has a ending and suspenseful one that runs over the four books in the series - and B.B. Reid weaves them together seamlessly. The love and hate between Four and Ever and the motivation behind Ever's actions directly ties to this larger plot. She always begins laying breadcrumbs for readers to see how the overall plot will play out as the series progresses.  What readers are guaranteed to get is tension, chemistry, comedic moments, a fierce heroine, and alpha jerk hero, and host of secondary characters that will keep readers captivated from the first page.

B.B. Reid has delivered one my favorite suspense romances of the year. I was consumed by this world, and when I hit the final page, I was already demanding the next book.  I am not sure that I will never get enough of the When Rivals Play crew.

Mindblowing. Angst-filled. Drama driven. Riveting. Intense. Brilliant. NA at it's finest. Masterful writing. The list goes on and on, but what I can assure you - The Peer and the Puppet by B.B Reid is more than a 5 star read! Hail!

For a reader who digs stories brilliantly crafted, I sure as hell always count on B.B Reid's work. From that book she wrote that hit big time and have been constantly raved in the book community, she marked my heart, stole and owned it. I have been a fan since, and to say that I have waited this first book in her When Rivals Play Series was an understatement. I more than waited. So when it hit my reader, I pretty much devoured the book. It was an encyclopedia-ish I tell you. And when I usually ran away from books this long, I did not with The Peer and The Puppet. I never even complained. I was madly turning the pages eager to know what will happen next yet slowly reading each page, breathing and inhaling each word because I didn't want it to end. It was that good and perfect! I love it BIG TIME!

Yes! Four and Ever's journey was utter perfection. The build up of angst from the first few pages until it almost ended had me at the edge of my seat. I love it and I love how it made me crazy in love with them. Their's was one unique chemistry and tale. It was slowburn and explosive all the same I was teased to no end. The love-hate relationship they have for each other burned me inside-out they were laser-etched in my system. It was insane yet I don't want it any other way. Gah! All of these and more was brilliantly crafted by Bebe. The more I read it, the more I was into it. Even the secondary characters held a special place in my heart. Never and I mean did I got bored reading this tale. And it was so long! What it did to me was captivate from start to finish. I was really hooked to no end!

Overall, I will highly recommend The Peer and The Puppet. It was so much more you can ever imagine. God! The angst of this book will definitely make you high. The sexy and hot scenes will make you crave for it even more. Go, read this book blind. It's worth the wait. Everything was just PERFECTION.

Kudos BB Reid! I am soooo excited for next installmentbof this series.

AHHHH can't wait! I frickin love B.B. Reid. Bring me dat alphaa. Also, five starring this because 1. B.B. Reid, and 2. it annoys me when people give bad ratings to books before they're even released. What the hell, people. Take your nonsense elsewhere.

IF YOU LOVE stories with SUSPENSE, ALPHA ASSHOLES, HOT AS HELL ANTIHEROES, BAD ASS heroines and AMAZING secondary characters then this book is FOR YOU!

The suspense! The twists! The turns! The bromance and the banter!! The push and pull between Ever and Four. I. JUST. CAN'T. I have the biggest book hangover ever. I stayed up til 5 am reading this book, and when I woke up hours later, I dove right back in. It was one of those books that just kept me sucked in and needing to know wtf was going to happen next.

I've been a fan of B.B. Reid's for a few years now, and I must say, she's out done herself with this story. The Peer and the Puppet is Ever and Four's story and CAN be read as a standalone, it's first in the series. The next book The Moth and the Flame will continue the storyline! I CANNOT WAIT to spend more time with these characters and find out more about them!

One of my ABSOLUTE TOP READS OF 2018!

Four Archer is suddenly moving with her mother Roslyn, from a small place Cherry to Blackwood Keep, into the new house of her mother's latest boyfriend Thomas, where the abundance in money and power is just a glimpse of what actually comes down to, and then, there's also Everson/Ever McNamara .

The boy who runs the school along with his entourage Vaughn, Jameson/Jamie, Barbette/Barbie/Bee, the boy who lives a secret life, the boy whose so intense, dominant, possesive and blunt, he has his own hidden agendas, rules, plans and measures of conduct and one look at this wild spitfire spirited girl with the unusual name, holds a threat to everything he has carefuly planned out to do. She's messing with the scheme, and she's a distraction he never wanted.
Four was smart but naive. Stubborn yet delfless. Fierce yet broken. And she could hold one hell of a grudge. She was pretty without being obvious, yet she made my dick harder than any girl had before. The cherry on top was how she made me feel alive again.

but things are so complex and complicated and it seems like these rich kids are living their lives covered in lies, deceits and secrets within the closed up elite pack.

The pulsating hate pent up chemistry between Four and Ever will eventually burst innihilating everything on their path and yet will it be powerful enough to withhold the uncovered surface of peeled of layers and layers of masked notions, deep lies, cruel circumstances and unbashed agendas in power hungry games where pawns are everyone and nothing is sacred.

until one girl finds a way to set things in motion with the power of pure heart, undulated passion and determination...
You're a curse, Ever Mcnamara.
Then you must be the spell to break me.

Without further dwelling upon the storyline, one can't go into the detailed explanation of the plot cause there's so many things happening that are also so very intertwine and interconnected with the development of the characters, it would be a major spoiler.

This is my third book by B. B. Reid, I have started with her Fear me series, and even though there was a certain set back in those books that made me not like them, when I often fall for these types of books, I found myself at the crossroads of like/dislike, and I totally take the responsibility of that on my own, concerning the given state of mind, emotional or any other mood influencing my final judgement.

However, I loved the writing style in this book. It was filled with absolute pent up angst and anticipation filled with action and emotional gradation .

I was really immeresed into the story cause of that.

BUT, and I hate when there's a BUT in my reviews LOL, and I can't help it but mention the fact that, for me, personaly, this book would have been a 5 star rating material if the characters had been more NA than YA role models. I just couldn't dig the whole notion of the things happening to them, since they were 14, and growing into the young adulthood of barely 18. It's just a less credible or relatable, for me in accepting the "seriousness" of the events described and portrayed through the charcters' decisions anad actions.

BUT that's solely on me, and everyone should make up their own minds about it, so I encourage you to read this angsty/anticipation filled action YA romance drama , with multiply layered and complex individual characters that absolutely dominate the pages while they act through intense love/hate/forbidden relationships and situations , on the very verge of likes such as Fallen Crest High series by Tijan or The Royals series by Erin Watt

Lost Interest.

The Paper Princess wannabes. Seriously was that book so popular that there are so many replicas out there?
This book is actually a mixture of that and also Fear me by this author.

I was not a fan of any of these books so this was bizarre for me.
I actually wonder that do teenagers really behave in such ways nowadays?
So much intensity, so much hatred, so much stupidity.....

And also why do the female leads (in this and also in the above books) poke around the asshole heroes. Why are they horny for such manwhore jerks? I mean its clear that they have their respective girlfriends, so why lust for them?
Anyways who am I to judge.
This book sucks. It’s such a messy story with so many characters.

Boy hates girls who is is going to be his stepsister. Boy has gf. He doesn’t like his gf. His cousin likes his gf. Even his gf likes his cousin. And ....*ugh*

I’m out of this.

I certainly love Bandit series from Miss Reid. The Peer and the Puppet reminds me of L.J. Sheen's book. Good at the beginning and then grow very tiresome following it.

The push and pull is only interesting at the beginning but I grow really tired following it up. The plot/ twist is never ending.
The chemistry is also cold.

Anyway... moving on...
