Zayn Malik's first live interview since he left UK boy band One Direction last March just aired on Apple Music's Beats One radio. Host Zane Lowe travelled to Malik's hometown of Bradford, England to conduct the conversation in a seemingly freezing soccer stadium (there's a lot of audible teeth chattering).

Malik told Lowe that his debut solo album, Mind of Mine, is mostly finished, and that it will have 17 or 18 songs, pared down from the 46 that he originally wrote. Malik worked with producer Malay who is best known for working on Frank Ocean's Channel Orange. At one point Malay had Malik sing into a microphone that was covered with a condom, which Lowe found pretty funny. Malik also collaborated with R&B wunderkind Kehlani, whose mixtape You Should Be Here is currently nominated for a Grammy for Best Urban Contemporary Album.

The lead single of Mind of Mine, "Pillow Talk" will debut tonight at 12 AM ET with an accompanying video. The full Mind of Mine album will reportedly be released on March 25, 2016, the one year anniversary of Malik's departure from One Direction.

Updated January 28th, 8:02 PM EST: Malik had not originally said when the "Pillow Talk" music video would premiere, but later tweeted confirmation that it would be released at 12 AM ET January 29th.

Updated January 29th, 9:00 AM EST: Updated to add release date for Mind of Mine.
