Security Perimeter Services Engineer

CTS’ Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Protection (CIP) manages and operates the statewide shared security infrastructure including firewalls, denial of service protection, intrusion detection/prevention, authentication systems, domain name services, and web service security. These services were established to protect the integrity, availability, and confidentiality of information held by the state of Washington and protects it from unauthorized use or modification, accidental or intentional damage or destruction. 
CIP also operates a Security Operations Center that conducts centralized monitoring and analysis of all security alert and monitoring systems and provides near real-time awareness of security events which may compromise delivery of critical online services.
Additionally, CIP operates and manages the state’s Security Gateways that enable a secure web-enabled government by providing access to state services via the Internet. They provide secure access to mission critical services for constituents and businesses that allow them to pay taxes, apply for unemployment benefits, access social service benefits, access law enforcement data, and other critical services which are key components of the security infrastructure for the state of Washington.
 
Duties:

As a member of the Enterprise Security Services (ESS) team, this position serves in the statewide perimeter security infrastructure that protects the state and local government network and allows uninterrupted traffic flow. This is an operational position within the Security Infrastructure Services (SIS) team which performs installation, maintenance & troubleshooting of security systems in support of high visibility, mission critical services upon which the State infrastructure depends.
Required Qualifications: 

  • 4 years of recent IT experience
  • Of the 4 years, some experience must be with large customer or service provider networks.
  • Recent experience analyzing, installing, and maintaining remote access systems such as site to site VPN, branch office VPN, client IPsec VPN, and/or SSL-VPN
  • Advanced knowledge with security technology support for firewalls, remote access and/or multi-factor authentication.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines while managing multiple priorities.
  • Proven skills to respond to inquiries in a timely, courteous and professional manner.
Desired Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree with emphasis in computer science or related field.
Specfic administrative experience with the following:
  • Citrix Netscaler
  • Cisco firewalls/VPN
  • Juniper SSL VPN
  • Enterprise DNS Systems
  • RSA SecurID
  • Cisco ACS
  • Qualys Vulnerability Scanning
  • Fortinet Security Appliances
 
Special Notes
 
This position will be filled as an ITS 2 in-training to an ITS 3. The candidate selected will be expected to complete a 12 month in-training program designed by CTS that includes both classroom and on-the-job training with the expectation of skills development to meet the qualifications for appointment to the ITS 3 job classification.
 
The incumbent in this position may be required pass a Washington State Patrol (WSP) criminal background check and meet all standards set by the WSP based on changes in technology and/or service delivery needs.
 
This position is covered by a union security provision. Therefore, as a condition of employment, candidates who are appointed are required to become members of the Washington Federation of State Employees, or pay other representational fees within the first 30 days of employment.

Insurance Benefits

Retirement and Deferred Compensation

Vacation (Annual Leave)
 
You begin accruing vacation starting your first month of employment. Since we value your loyalty, the amount of vacation you can accrue increases the longer you work with us. Washington State supports members of the armed forces with 21 days paid military leave per year. Vacation accrues for full-time employees per WAC 357-31-165.
