Continuing its push for major changes in Delhi’s education system, the government has decided to create over 9,000 additional teaching posts in its schools across the capital. The decision, which comes at an additional cost of Rs 540 crore, will help the government recruit permanent faculty in its schools.
Many government schools in the city neither have enough number of teachers nor permanent faculty members.
The education department is planning to recruit 25 principals, 365 vice-principals, 4,940 post graduate teachers (PGTs), 2,933 trained graduate teachers (TGTs), 860 physical education teachers, 256 drawing teachers, 38 librarians and 206 lab assistants.
The decision is aimed at achieving the teacher-pupil ratio envisaged in the Right To Education (RTE) Act.
The Educational Consultant India Limited (EdCIL) — which is under the jurisdiction of the human resource development ministry — will be asked to conduct an online recruitment test to ensure the process takes place in a transparent and speedy manner. The recruitment process will be done on behalf of the Directorate of Education.
To give a fair opportunity to eligible guest teachers, the department will also relax the requisite age guidelines and give additional weightage to experienced teachers.
