Chip Kelly sidesteps using 'Redskins', comments on name during press conference

PHILADELPHIA -- The debate over whether or not the term 'Redskins' is an appropriate nickname for Washington D.C.'s football team appears to have a new voice: Another NFL franchise.

After whitewashing the term "Redskins" from the team's weekly media guide prior to Sunday's Week 4 showdown between NFC East rivals, Eagles head coach Chip Kelly addressed the name during his Thursday press conference.

"I have a lot of personal beliefs on things," Chip Kelly said after an extended pause and smile. "But my belief doesn't affect what that name is. They can do what they want to do."

Moments prior, Kelly was asked about the possibility of weather impacting the game and appeared to make a conscious effort not to use the team's nickname.

"Nobody can control it," Kelly said of the weather. "Washington can't control it. We can't control it. They just tell us when to play, where to play and if that changes.

Officially the Eagles have no comment on the matter, per a team spokesman and an official request from NJ Advance Media to speak with owner Jeffrey Lurie was declined.
