HC asks Delhi govt to reply to pleas against cab regulation scheme

November 26, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:44 am IST - NEW DELHI:

The Delhi High Court has asked the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government to file replies to a bunch of petitions, including one filed by Uber India Technology Limited, challenging its new scheme for regulating app-based cab services.

One of the petitioners contended before a Division Bench of the High Court on Monday that the Delhi government was not empowered to frame such a scheme.

Some public interest writ petitions have also opposed plying of diesel and app-based taxis in the Capital.

The Bench, comprising Chief Justice G. Rohini and Justice Jayant Nath, issued notices to all parties on an application filed by an association of radio taxis seeking to intervene in the matter.

The next hearing is on January 28.

In its petition, Uber has challenged the Delhi government's August 2015 scheme for cab services, while contending that it was targeted at companies like it.

The scheme requires app-based cabs to share their location, while there is no such binding on radio taxis.
