New Honda Jazz: What to expect

June 2015
Back to News

Honda has officially announced that it will be launching the new Jazz in India on July 8, 2015. Originally slated to launch in March this year, the manufacturer faced delays following production issues at both its plants in Rajasthan and Greater Noida. The new Jazz, like its previous edition, promises great interior space and a rev-happy petrol engine. But this time around the Jazz gets a frugal diesel engine, unlike the old car. Here is everything you need to know about the new Jazz.

The Jazz gets an aggressive front fascia with an almost City-like grille and headlamp assembly. The bumper is dominated by large air-vents which add to the sporty appearance of the front. The side has a prominent rising beltline which merges neatly into the new 3D-effect tail-lamps. The car though still seems to carry forward the quasi-MPV, mono-volume shape. The base version of the Jazz is expected get 15-inch steel wheels with wheel covers while the top-end variants will get alloy wheels.

It’s on the inside that the Jazz really seems to come into its own. The new car gets a larger wheelbase when compared to the older model, meaning that the rear passenger gets an additional 30mm of legroom. This comes as no surprise since Honda offers the most spacious interiors out there.

Upfront, the dashboard gets black plastic insert on the centre console with the top-spec model getting a large touchscreen infotainment system dominating the space. The controls for the air-con are standard rotary dials on the lower variants, while the top variants will get a touch- sensitive climate control system similar to the City. The steering is also similar to the one in the new City.

The rear bench gets the ‘magic seats’, as Honda calls them, with the choice of either folding the seat-back down or folding up the seat base depending on how you wish to use the space. The front passenger seat can be folded back to form a recliner in conjunction with the rear seat in a setup Honda calls ‘Refresh Mode’. Other seating modes are ‘Tall mode’ where the seat bottom is folded up to fit in tall loads; ‘Utility Mode’ where the rear bench is folded down and ‘Long Mode’ where both rows of seats opposite the driver are folded down. The boot on the new Jazz is even larger than the older model at 363 litres; it’s the largest you’ll probably find on any hatchback in the segment.
