KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- The Western Michigan women's soccer team picked up its second-straight win after blanking Western Illinois, 2-0, at the WMU Soccer Complex on Sunday afternoon.

Emma Kahn and
Alexis Shamoun each tallied goals on the day, while junior goalkeeper
Stephanie Heber made two saves in her third shutout of the season.

Western Michigan (4-1-0) got its break-through goal early in the 13th minute when Kahn took a feed from
Alyssa Burke deep in the box and beat WIU's goalkeeper Inas Palmiero Herrera for her first goal of the season.

Kahn had another great chance in the 37th minute on a left-footed strike from distance but Palmiero Herrera was able to make the save.

WMU pushed the lead to 2-0 on Shamoun's first career goal in the 64th minute. The ball bounced to the junior midfielder just outside the top-left corner of the box. Shamoun settled the ball, turned and fired a high-arching shot that banked off the cross bar and down into the goal.

With the 2-0 lead head coach
Lauren Sinacola began liberally substituting from her bench, with 21 total players seeing action.
Annie Selk,
Victoria McCartney and
Paige Dobbs all made their season debuts in the win.

WMU maintained its lead and clamped down on the Leathernecks, allowing just five shots in the second half. In total the Broncos outshot WIU 20-9 on the day and had an 11-2 advantage in shots on goal.

The Broncos head back out on the road to take on Loyola on Friday at 8 p.m. before hosting Valparaiso on Sunday at 1 p.m.
