Purchase options and add-ons
Strong–minded yet filled with compassion, Shanna Stoltzfus always dreamed of becoming a nurse, despite her father's threats to shun her. Determined to follow her heart, Shanna ran away and enrolled in college. But when her classmates embark on a medical mission trip that Shanna can't afford, she must turn to the last place she wants to go for help: home.
Even though Shanna still flirts with the people and practices of her Englisch life, Matthew is fascinated by the Stoltzfuses' prodigal daughter, and a close friendship soon blossoms between them. When the tension escalates between Shanna and her father to the point where his health is in jeopardy, Shanna is forced to face some tough issues, including the question of where her true home is.

Shanna and her father seemed to always lock horns as they are both stubborn and have a bit more pride than either one of them should have and unfortunately, that and the fact that Shanna felt drawn to helping others led her to the leave and enter nursing which she feels strongly is a gift that she has. Her father felt so betrayed, when she left, however, her mother did keep in touch with her and let her know she would always be welcome. Shanna ended up needing a place to go during the summer and where else does one normally turn but to home, so she comes home not sure what type of a welcome she will receive from her father.
Matthew, who is part of the swap of Amish men between the Amish communities trying to introduce new blood into each of the communities has come to live with Shanna's family and help her father and brother with the furniture business.
Many things come into play including of course, Matthew and Shanna being drawn to each other ... but what a huge obstacle Shanna has left behind her Amish roots and Matthew has been baptized. Of course, there is a lot more to this story... this is just one obstacle ... but it is a huge one .. and with Shanna's stubborness in the mix ... it could be one that can not be worked out.
Read this delightful book and find out the twists and turns. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did ... and now on to the 3rd book in this enchanting series.
Matthew Yoder moves from Pennsylvania to Missouri in a swap of men to introduce new men into the community. He stays with a family who's daughter, Shanna left into the English world to pursue a nursing degree and career but returns home for the summer. Her father is stubborn and harsh and has doubts that Shanna will stay. Matthew works hard to give Shanna a reason to stay but she's worked too hard for her dream to just walk away and stay. She decides after an emergency she couldn't possibly stay and while trying to run away runs into Matthew and the bishop and is forced to make a decision between her two worlds that she thought she already made.
Normally, the bishops in the Amish books don't understand, won't tolerate, and are unmoving ,everything is either black or white. This bishop gave options and at first was the typical bishop I'm used to in these stories but he showed he was human which allowed Shanna to grow in her faith whether she stayed or left the community.
