COLUMBIA FALLS, Maine — The Balsam Valley Amphitheater, which is set to host a performance by country music singer John Michael Montgomery on Sunday, was nearly destroyed by high winds caused by Hurricane Arthur, according to a prepared statement released Saturday.
“The winds destroyed tents, equipment and even closed the entrance on (U.S.) Route 1 when power lines were knocked down,” the statement said.
Despite the damage, volunteers are working to rebuild the amphitheatre, and the show is expected to take place on Sunday. Doors will open at 6 p.m.
“It is a mess, but everyone is working hard to get things back in place and with cooperation from John Michael Montgomery and even our local community volunteers, it looks like we are going to have great weather and a great event on Sunday,” concert organizer Rob Worcester said in the statement.
The show is a benefit concert for Wreaths Across America, an organization that lays wreaths on veterans’ graves at Christmas.
