It's simple! Instead of one transaction, do two transactions on your local FullCircles / Freecycle group!
Here's a hypothetical example. I upgrade my computer and move from WinVista to Windows 7. I'm happy as a clam. The new system is great! It's faster, doesn't crash. I don't have to worry about storage space. Everything goes smoothly until I discover that my perfectly good webcam that worked just fine when I was running winVista just won't work on Windows 7. I even had a techie teenager try getting it to work. But, no way. What to do...? I could just go out and buy a new web cam (if I could afford it) and throw the old one in my box of miscellaneous computer "stuff" (doesn't everybody have a box like this???). Or, I could offer my perfectly good webcam (and all the software, etc. to make sure it works!) on my local Freecycle and perhaps create another great freecycle story, like this story of how a freecycled webcam changed the life of an Ottawa grandmother and her extended family. I would create an offer like this: SUBJECT: OFFER: Working webcam for win98 system (Barrhaven) This Sony xyx3.5432 webcam, software, and connectors are in perfect working condition, but will not work on my new WinXP system. If you would like to add a webcam to your win98 system, please contact me. I would prefer to give this camera to a senior wishing to strengthen communications with distant family members, as described in Katherine Walt's heartwarming freecycle success story! Pickup in Barrhaven.
And, before I go out and purchase another webcam (...if I could afford it), I could post a wanted message on my local FullCircles (...or Freecycle) group requesting a working webcam that will work on my new winVista system. I would create a wanted posting like this: Subject: WANTED: Working webcam for Winxp system (Barrhaven) Upgraded my system from WinVista to Windows 7 and discovered that my perfectly good webcam will not work on Vist. It was offered up on FullCircles this morning. So, before I go out and purchase a webcam that will work on W, I wanted to try to "Shop Fullcircles" to secure a working webcam through the generosity of a FullCircles network member. If you have an unused webcam, I'd be pleased to pick it up at your convenience!
