GDPR is not complicated - I think it is actually quite simple
GDPR and related ISO270xx can easily be translated into good behavior:
- If you want to borrow something - Ask nicely. Eg. a friend car. Same goes for private and company data
- Tell what you want to use it for. A road trip to Italy or just to go to work
- Don't use it for something else. Don't do street race or rent it out. Same goes for private and company data
- Take care of it protect it properly and don't get it stolen
- If you get it stolen or break it - Tell owner and authorities ASAP
- If you lost it and didn't protect it properly.... Then you have to pay
Yes there's a lot of work to be done but that is expected as we are trying to implement good behavior 20-30 years after we start sharing data online.
I don't think it is impossible to implement GDPR before May 2018 but extreme focus from top management and dedicated resources has to be a top priority from today.

6yConcise and practical summary, as a lead into the detail. It would be great for all GDPR experts to communicate it in as an opportunity to embrace it as a source of competitive advantage, and not as the sword of Damocles.
