We'll ensure artistic freedom: Mishra
Delhi tourism minister Kapil Mishra said his government would ensure that the creative community continues to enjoy artistic freedom in the city. He also promised young entrepreneurs a hassle-free system to get clearances from various government departments.
"If you find anybody stopping you from doing business, please tell us about it. We will make sure good ideas see the light of day," he said.
Mishra was speaking at a three-day conclave being attended by writers, artists, designers, entrepreneurs, among others, at Talkatora Stadium on Saturday.
He invited industry professionals to discuss innovative business ideas that the government could help in furthering.
Rahul Bhasin, tourism adviser to the CM, said Delhiites will be involved in promoting art and culture. "The Delhi International Arts Festival in October will not be restricted to certain pockets, but will be made accessible to all the 70 constituencies. We are planning to reach out to the people, to take it out to streets, local markets."
Roshan Shankar, also an adviser to the CM, stressed the need to cut the monopoly of some influential people in the cultural sphere. "Currently, festivals are controlled by what I call Lutyens' cultural mafia. The venue makes you feel unwelcome. There may not be rule to this effect and it may be free for public but the feel of the venue is not. To stop this trend, we will make the events accessible to everyone-from Bawana to Mundka."

Bhasin pointed out that besides visiting usual tourist spots and monuments, people should get to view documentaries of ordinary markets, like Lajpat Nagar, for example. "Kathputli Colony is a hub of artists. Stories of such places should reach the people," Shankar added.
Shankar also spoke about the changing face of Delhi State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd. "If the food and beverage industry has a project, they should be able to get all their licences and clearances from one place," he said.
