A BRADFORD shopkeeper caught with counterfeit DVDs had his sentence adjourned at Bradford Crown Court today so that figures can be obtained to show how much he profited from his offending.

Shahid Ali, 33, admitted 20 charges of possessing goods with a false trademark when he appeared before Bradford and Keighley Magistrates' Court last month.

The DVDs were seized from Movie Palace on Manchester Road, on January 7 last year.

Films included Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and Dumb and Dumber 2.

Ali, of Dudley Street, Wakefield Road, Bradford, was rebailed until May 12.

Prosecution barrister, Mark Brookes, said 4,000 DVDs were seized from the shop and a garage.

He asked the court for more time to assess the loss to the retail industry and the profit made by Ali, who was charging £3 each for the counterfeit DVDs that normally sold for £8.

The court heard that Ali maintained that some of the DVDs seized were genuine.

Judge Jonathan Rose told him: "Further work needs to be done on your case before you can properly be sentenced for what you have done."

He warned Ali: "It is quite possible that you will receive a prison sentence for these offences."
