Pregnancy should have been a great time for Lara Stone—but in the beginning, at least, it threw the Dutch supermodel for a bit of a loop. Interviewed recently for Porter magazine's summer issue, the Calvin Klein beauty revealed that she was fired from a job after revealing she was expecting her first child back in 2012.
Per the London Evening Standard, Stone found out she was pregnant right before an important modeling gig and promptly passed the news on to the people who had booked her. When she arrived for the job, however, she was told they'd booked someone else. No one came right out and said it was because she was expecting, but she told Porter she got the distinct impression that had something to do with it.
"I was really upset at the time," the 30-year-old catwalker said. "I hadn't yet had my three-month scan and I felt really vulnerable about everything. I no longer had a job. That was it—I had to just stop everything that I knew; the way my life was."
Perhaps because of that, Stone struggled to come to terms with the changes in her body during and after her pregnancy. She gave birth to a baby boy—Alfred, her first child with husband David Walliams—in May 2013, and was surprised to find she didn't bounce back right away.
"Once the baby was out, I was like, 'What the hell is going on? My arms don't fit into my sweaters,'" she recalled. "I couldn't get my jeans over my knees. I couldn't find a bra that fit me. I had body dysmorphia but the wrong way 'round."
These days, she's feeling more like her old self, thanks to personal trainer James Duigan and a diet delivery service. She's also happily settled into the life she's built with British comedian Walliams and their little boy in London. "We've just bought a house together, and we've got this lovely baby and lovely dog," she said, "and everything is so nice."
