“We all like the truck because it's abuelo's truck,” said Dean. “That was his favorite truck. I was just heartbroken, heartbroken, trying to see what avenues I could take to find this truck."

So Dean loaded up her grandkids and hit the roads in northwest Albuquerque, praying all along her late husband would somehow lead her to the stolen vehicle.

“I started down Montano, and was real close to Second Street, and all of a sudden I spotted his truck,” she said.

Dean turned into a nearby parking lot and noticed the truck had a different license plate. When the suspected thief got out, she ran up to it and punched in the lock key code. Once she figured out the truck was hers, she did something not a lot of people, let alone a grandmother, would do: She used her own car to block the entrance and dialed 911.

Police showed up and arrested Jasen Mulvaney, who’s now charged with receiving or transferring a stolen motor vehicle.

“They were there in seconds, and I’m so grateful to (the police),” Dean said.
