Jane Lynch & her doctor girlfriend set to wed in May

Even though I’m not watching Glee, I do love Jane Lynch. She’s been a working character actress in films and television shows for so many years, and I’ve always found her charming, talented and amazing. It’s also pretty great that at the age of 49, Lynch is having something of a career Renaissance with her role in Glee – this is basically the first time she’s ever been up for any big awards, and she seems to be enjoying herself on all of the red carpets. It was on the Golden Globes red carpet that I heard her mention her girlfriend, and it was at that very moment I realized she was a lesbian. Shocking! Not really.

Anyway, it looks like Lynch does have a girlfriend, Lara Embry, and Embry is a doctor! A psychologist, to be exact. And now Lara and Jane are going to get married. Oh, Jane is going to be a doctor’s wife! I bet her mom is thrilled. Seriously.

Coming off of her multiple award-show wins for her hit comedy series “Glee,” actress Jane Lynch has one more reason to celebrate.

Lynch, who plays the demanding cheerleading coach Sue Sylvester on the hit Fox series, is set to tie the knot with her girlfriend, Dr. Lara Embry, in a May wedding, The New York Times’ Carpetbagger blog reports.

The report lightly touched upon the news, stating, “Jane Lynch, who saw her Fox show ‘Glee’ win a Golden Globe and who told us she was marrying her partner, Lara, in May, summed up the night’s victories for Fox: ‘It’s good to be on the winning team.'”

Embry is a psychologist who gained notoriety last year for her triumph in a same-sex custody battle with a former partner over their two children, shewired.com reported.

When Embry and her partner were together, both women reportedly gave birth to one child, and each adopted her non-biological child through a second-parent adoption.

Though the couple eventually split and agreed to share custody of both children, Embrey’s ex single-handedly decided to separate the children and cut off all ties between Embry and one of her children.

With the help of the National Center for Lesbian Rights, the Florida courts decided that Embry “must be given the same rights as any other adoptive parent in Florida.”

For her efforts, Embry was honored by the NCLR with the organization’s Justice Award, while Lynch was also in attendance as a presenter at the May 2009 event.

Dr. Embry sounds like a really cool woman, doesn’t she? I kind of want her to be my girlfriend. And I want someone to describe me as “trailblazing” at least once. Oh, well. Congratulations to Lara and Jane, I hope they have a lovely wedding and a wonderful marriage.

A psychologist isn’t a doctor -if you refer to physicians.

  2. Dorothy says:

Well she is still called Doctor so in my book she is a Dr.!

I love Jane in all the Christopher Guest movies! I hope she has a happy marriage!

  3. SageAdvice says:

Love love love Jane Lynch. She is hilarious. I fell in love when I saw her in Best In Show and have been following her career since then.

I hope she has a beautiful wedding and a long, happy marriage 🙂

  4. Anastasia says:

So her girlfriend is most likely a psychiatrist, not a psychologists. Psychologists are not called “doctor” as they don’t attend medical school. Psychiatrists are and do.

That being said, I LOVE Jane Lynch! Kudos to her for her personal and professional life and her doggies are the cuteness. Looks like one is a big ol’ Wheaten Terrier, one of my favorite breeds.

She was awesome in all the Christopher Guest mockumentaries and I loved her in 40 Year Old Virgin.

Physicians aren’t the only people who may earn the title “doctor”, if you have a doctorate in … Music… You can be Dr Jones of music

  5. latvian lady says:

Is she the sister of Kelly Lynch? They very much resemble one another. Which one’s older?

  6. Praise St. Angie! says:

    LOVE Jane Lynch.

Sage, first thing I saw her in was also Best in Show (such a funny movie!) and have loved her in everything since.

just watched her in “Role Models” last night and she was hilarious.

  7. Roma says:

Jane Lynch owned Role Models! The dirty hotdog bit was my favourite part of the movie. And how much do I love her as Spencer’s mom on Criminal Minds? I’m so happy for her.

  8. Kimble says:

@Anastasia: my psychologist is called Dr because she has a PhD in psychology! I would hazard a guess that this is the same situation.

Love Jane Lynch and wish her every happiness with her Dr!

  9. Alexa says:

Where I live, psychologists have doctorate degrees and often go by Dr. ________. (It really doesn’t have anything to do with this story though.)

  10. Tess says:

What’s so fabulous about leaving one family with two children in complete disarray? And then hooking up with a actress, one I happen to enjoy, but let’s face it, the profession attracts fairly self-involved individuals.

Not a recipe for a stable, child-centered environment.

Also, she’s not a medical doctor. She’s clearly identified as a psychologist in the text.

  11. lucy2 says:

I would assume she has a PhD to have the Dr. title, as with most professions.
@Tess – I don’t think she ditched her family for Jane. Sounds like she and her previous partner simply broke up, there was a custody issue which took a long time to resolve, and at some point during that time, she and Jane got together.

Love Jane, been a fan of her work for a long time, and it’s great to see her have so much success recently. Congratulations to them!

  12. Iggles says:

Jane Lynch is awesome! Congrats to here.

    As for this:
Though the couple eventually split and agreed to share custody of both children, Embrey’s ex single-handedly decided to separate the children and cut off all ties between Embry and one of her children.

Her girlfriend sounds amazing. She fought for her rights and won a victory for many other gay parents.

My view is, live your life the way you want to. When children are in the mix you don’t get to be selfish. You don’t get to change around the parenting arrangements depending on whom you are or aren’t dating! The best interest of the child comes first.

  13. Jess says:

Jane Lynch is awesome. Just saw Julie and Julia last night, and Jane had a bit part in it as Julia Child’s sister. It was a small role, but she was adorable nonetheless.

Kaiser: I can’t believe you haven’t seen Glee! That show is f-ing AWESOME, and Lynch is THE star of that show. You should really check it out when you have a minute!

  14. Tia C says:

@ Latvian Lady – Good question! I checked on IMDB and Kelly and Jane Lynch are not related, although they are both from the midwest and both born around the same time (1959 & 1960, respectively).

I have always loved Jane Lynch’s work. She is excellent in everything she does, and she always makes me laugh. I am glad to hear this happy news for her!

  15. mouth.like.a.sailor says:

i first saw her in some of the Christopher Guest movies that she is always in and totally loved her immediately, i don’t know what it is about her-i guess it’s her delivery and just, her, presence, she just commands attention and she’s so understatedly hilarious. i LOVE her !!! i am really glad she has found the success that she has had recently as she has kind of crossed over from smaller indie type movies to more mainstream stuff including those commercials she does and, oddly enough, that Disney movie with Selena Gomez…she was awesome in it.

so congratulations to her and her partner, it sounds like she is probably in a really good place in her life. and hey! it just goes to show you, no matter what your sexual orientation you can never escape the baby mama drama.

i’ve never seen Glee either- i know it’s weird but whenever a movie or a show is so overly hyped i tend to stay away from it..it’s just something i’ve always done. like, i’ve never seen Titanic, or Star Wars, or “24”, or How I Met Your Mother, or FLight of the Conchords (even tho i really want to!), or Lost, or Heroes, or any of that other kind of stuff, it’s like something in me just shuts off and i can’t do it….. although i do totally indulge in True Blood and Big Love. way off topic, wow. sorry folks!

  16. Mairead says:

I just want to say – I adore this woman’s bones. She is one of my favourite actresses. Like nearly everyone here I first saw her in Best In Show, but my favourite is A Mighty Wind, where she sings her lungs out 😀
And she was my favourite thing about Julie & Julia, truth be told.

I’ve not yet seen Glee (I know i know), but I’ll probably buy the boxset when it’s out.
@mouth: you’re missing nothing by not seeing Titanic and 24 and Lost were never really my thing, although 24 looks excellent anytime I do catch it.

But you have to see the original three Star Wars – especially on the big screen if you can. And How I Met Your Mother is definitely worth it for Neil Patrick Harris alone 😉

  17. YeahTOAST says:

Most countries, including the USA, Germany, and New Zealand, have STRICT laws that dictate whether someone is a “psychologist.” For instance, they are required to a hold a PhD- a doctoral degree- and must be registered. Most psychologists aren’t counseling or clinical psychologists (most people think of psychotherapy and laying on a couch)…a great majority are researchers. I believe there are 55 or 56 different areas of psychology.

So yes, they are called doctors. It’s just the same as professors being called “Dr. —-” because they have their doctorate.

  18. Cinderella says:

Psychologist or psychiatrist…They both require a lot of schooling and gobs of student loans. Call them both doctors. They earned it.

Good luck to Jane and her partner. Like everyone else, I adored her in Best in Show.

  19. lanette says:

    “wed” GIVE Me a break.

  20. katyusha says:

    Love Jane Lynch!!
Did anyone see her when she was on Chelsea Lately? She’s hilarious!! Super witty. I wish that interview could’ve gone on for hours.

  21. lola lola says:

Love Jane! Good luck to them both. I hope they live happily ever after!

  22. Dhavy says:

well she played a good psychologist in “two and half men”

She’s very funny, congrats to her
