Delhi BJP councillors Friday met Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju and sought the Centre’s assistance in getting funds, as recommended by the Delhi Finance Commission, released from the AAP government. The councillors — led by mayors of the south, north and east municipal corporations — also organised a march to protest against the AAP government. Later, a delegation of councillors handed over a memorandum on the issue.

“The delegation requested the minister to intervene and ask the Delhi government to act constitutionally and release pending arrears of Rs 3,000 crore of the third Delhi Finance Commission… and also implement the recommendations of the fourth Delhi Finance Commission,” said Vijay Prakash Pandey, leader of house in the North civic body.

The memorandum stated, “The government of Delhi repeatedly threatens and maligns the three MCDs… The Delhi cabinet… without citing even one incident of corruption, regularly tarnishes the image of the civic bodies by alleging there is massive corruption. Kejriwal threatens the civic bodies with dissolution while he has no constitutional power to threaten the autonomous bodies…,” stated the memorandum.

Rijiju told ANI, “(CM) Arvind Kejriwal just wants to defame MCD people…. citizens are suffering. The Delhi government should know better.”
