Gisborne, the city of beaches, and our next destination. The 7 hours drive to Gisborne was a truly amazing and impressive drive which took us through Waioeka Gorge with lovely scenery.

The Gorge, the busdriver didn´t have time for any photo moments, appearently.

We arrived in Gisborne and were picked up by Ulla who is a swedish speaking finn living in New Zealand with her family. We ended up staying at Ulla's place for almost one week even though our host went away for a couple of days. Meanwhile, we had a great time exploring Gisborne with these guys.

... and Jack

We had some days of beautiful weather so we took the chance to explore some of the beaches nearby. The first beach we went to was called Makarori beach. At lowtide we decided to wade out to a few rocks along the shoreline. Thomas tried to find some seafood and Frida was busy trying to catch a crab that was hiding underneath a rock and study a running mussel.

Another day we went to Sponge Bay. Frida decided to show Thomas how brave she is and took a "swim".

We did (of cause) visit the Farmers market together with Ullas son, Zac, on Saturday morning. As you might have noticed, we find it very amusing to stroll around, listen to live music and taste local food and wines at the markets in New Zealand. Fruits and vegetables are fresh and juicy and often cheaper than in supermarkets.

The last day we went to Millton for some winetasting and a snack. Lovely place, great people!

Our stay at Ulla's place was exactly what we needed, a break from the vacation. We really enjoyed spending time on the balcony catching the sun, taking her dogs for morning and evening walks/runs, making food and reading books. Thank you Ulla for having us!
