Have not asked for any file on discoms: Najeeb Jung

On Monday, Kejriwal tweeted, “Cost of 200/400 units of electricity In Del- Rs 550/1200 In Gujarat- Rs 1100/2300 Now Modiji wants Del rates also to be equal to Gujarat.”

LG Najeeb Jung, Lieutenant Governor Delhi, Delhi government, Arvind Kerjriwal, delhi news, Kerjriwal news, Delhi High Court, Sheila Dikshit, Delhi government news, latest news, India news Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, Najeeb Jung.

LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR Najeeb Jung Monday said Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s statement, claiming he had called for files pertaining to the penalty on discoms and cancelled the Delhi government’s order, were “incorrect and misleading”.

“It is unfortunate that factually incorrect and misleading statements are being placed in the public domain,” Jung said in a statement issued by his office.

The statement added, “The Lt-Governor’s office has not asked for any specific file. Files have been submitted to the office of the Lt-Governor by the GNCTD (Government of the National Capital Territory of Delhi) following the Hon’ble High Court’s order dated August 4, 2016. All such files, which have come to the Lt-Governor’s office, are likely to contain Constitutional infirmities.”

The LG cited the order of the High Court, which stated, “The proceedings of the Government of NCT of Delhi, Department of Power …dated June 6, 2015 issuing policy directions to the Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission, regarding disruption in electricity supply to consumers and compensation payable in respect thereof, are illegal and unconstitutional since such policy directions cannot be issued without communicating to the Lt-Govenor of NCT of Delhi for his views.”

Jung’s statement came in the light of media reports that quoted Kejriwal saying that a fortnight ago, Jung had called for the file pertaining to the AAP government’s decision to compensate consumers for unscheduled power cuts, and cancelled the order issued by AAP.

Festive offer

Kejriwal was speaking at an event to lay the foundation stone of various development projects in Najafgarh Sunday. According to media reports, Kejriwal claimed Jung had taken the decision based on instructions from Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Kejriwal had also cautioned against a hike in power tariff rates in the capital.

On Monday, Kejriwal tweeted, “Cost of 200/400 units of electricity In Del- Rs 550/1200 In Gujarat- Rs 1100/2300 Now Modiji wants Del rates also to be equal to Gujarat.”

During another event in Kirari Saturday, Kejriwal had lashed out at Modi and Jung over tariff rates. “We passed an order stating that power companies will pay compensation to the people if there are unscheduled power cuts of more than two hours. Should such an order be there or not? Power companies went to Modiji, he called up the Lt-Governor and he is sitting on this order… Have your power bills reduced or not? Modiji is threatening to increase power tariffs in Delhi. I am challenging you, Modiji. If you increase the power tariff, the people of Delhi will teach you a lesson,” he had said.
