Delhi govt invites sports clubs academies, to train students

To promote sports in schools, the Delhi government has asked academies, clubs and individual trainers to impart sports training to students.

While the coaching would be free for all government school students, academies will be allowed to charge a “ reasonable” fee from private schools. Sports such as taekwondo, karate, judo, table tennis, football, basketball, volleyball, kabaddi, athletics and chess will be covered under the scheme. “Sports play an integral role in the overall development of the child. It is with this view that the education department has launched this scheme,” said a senior official.

While the academies have been asked to furnish equipment required for teaching, they won’t be charged for the use of school premises.

To be considered for the scheme, a candidate must either have been a coach for at least five years and trained contestants for national-level competitions, or played the game at state, national or international level and coached others in it.
