Today Samsung announced the much-anticipated Galaxy S4 Zoom, a camera phone that truly lives up the moniker. The announcement was yet another in a chain of announcements that Samsung has been making over the last couple of weeks, with the Galaxy S4 Active, Galaxy Tab 3 Series and more being announced before the June 20th event Samsung is holding in London next week. So, this raises the question – what do Samsung have left to show off? That’s a good question, and with so much already having been announced, it looks like the answer could well be a true successor to the Galaxy Camera.

AndroidBeat are hypothesizing that a mirrorless Galaxy Camera might be on the cards for next week’s event. This was corroborated thanks to Lars from All About Samsung who essentially confessed to having information concerning the new device. The Galaxy S4 Zoom is very much a miniature version of the original Galaxy Camera that’s perfectly portable enough to be used as a phone – as is intended. Now, if Samsung are intending to replace the Galaxy Camera with this new, smaller version of the Android camera then, just what can the Galaxy Camera II offer?

Well, it stands to reason that they could offer something like a mirrorless camera, with interchangeable lenses and of course a fully fledged build of Android. Mirrorless cameras have long shipped with smart features such as WiFi and NFC, with Samsung’s NX range marketed as a smart camera. Offering a camera that has imaging performance to go along with the high-performance OS inside it seems like a winning combination to us. The Galaxy Camera was an okay device but, the imaging side of things left a lot to be desired and its price tag was considered too high for a lot of people. Announcing a new camera in the NX range with Android built-in could prove very successful for Samsung, they’d have a whole series of lenses already available for the device.

It seems that the Galaxy Camera II is to be no different, as it’s already being dubbed “pricey”. Could Samsung be announcing an NX camera with Android built-in? Let us know your predictions for next week’s event in the comments!
