Former Chongqing official sentenced to death

The Chongqing No. 5 Intermediate People's Court on Wednesday sentenced Wen Qiang, former deputy police chief of Chongqing municipality, to death for protecting mafia-style gangs, taking bribes, rape, and owning huge amounts of money and assets he could not justify.

The court also will confiscate all of his personal property and take away his political rights for life, the Chongqing-based cqnews.net reported Wednesday.

Huang Daiqiang, former deputy head of the criminal police division under the Chongqing municipal police bureau, was sentenced to 20 years in jail and stripped of his personal property of 300,000 yuan and fined 2.2 million yuan.

Zhao Liming, deputy head of Chongqing's public transportation security police division, was sentenced to 17 years and 6 months in jail and stripped of his personal property of 100,000 yuan.

Chen Tao, deputy head of the city's public security police division, was sentenced to 19 years and 6 months in jail and stripped of his personal property of 100,000 yuan.

Zhou Xiaoya, Wen Qiang's wife, was sentenced to eight years in jail and stripped of her personal property of 500,000 yuan.
