WATCH: Trent Boult’s hat-trick against Pakistan in Abu Dhabi

Left-arm paceman Trent Boult became the third New Zealand bowler to pick up an ODI hat-trick on Wednesday (November 7). The 29-year-old achieved the feat in the second ODI against Pakistan at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi.

Boult (3-54) nailed Pakistan’s top order with the wickets of Fakhar Zaman, Babar Azam, and Mohammad Hafeez off successive deliveries after New Zealand posted a decent total of 266/9.

It all started in the second ball of the third over when Boult knocked over Fakhar with an incoming delivery. He then managed to induce an edge off Babar’s willow from a very full-length delivery and the ball flew to the right of wide slip where Ross Taylor completed the catch. Boult followed it up with another inswinging delivery that trapped Hafeez right in front of the stumps.

Danny Morrison was the first Kiwi to take an ODI hat-trick. He did it against India in 1994. Meanwhile, Shane Bond did the same against Australia in 2007.

Chasing 267, Pakistan captain Sarfraz Ahmed (64) and Imad Wasim (50) shared a century-stand and gave their team a chance before the tourists bowled them out for 219 in 47.2 overs to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.
