Nuestra institucion fue fundada en el año 2001 y realiza trabajos de manejo y conservacion de tortugas marinas en las zonas insulares de Venezuela como isla de margarita, los roques, los testigos e isla la tortuga. Realiza trabajos de educacion ambiental y comunitario. Evaluamos las areas de anidacion y alimentacion al igual que los impactos que intervienen en la conservacion de estas especies

Description:

The Sea Turtle Commission (CTM) is a local initiative and was created by the Natural park of Principe by the end of 2010. It appeared from the combine wills of the Regional Government of Principe Island (São Tomé and Príncipe), following the approval in 2009 of the Regional Law on the protection of sea turtles, and some local sea turtle hunters, persons that have being trying to leave the subsistence on turtles and have been collaborating in past and present conservation and research activities.

The Regional Government is very committed to develop this very poor region based on sustainable activities and biodiversity preservation. Following that view the Commission was created from the premise that a greater degree of self-sufficiency and self-determination of the local people, acquired in part by capacity building activities, is the correct track to develop the island and start opting for up-to-date and correct conservation practices.

The main goal of the Commission is to act as a mechanism to implement the enforcement of the sea turtle protection law, to awareness and empower the local population for the alternatives, to provide local help and assistance to researchers and conservationists and to make available comprehensive information for management decisions.

Given that the actual situation of turtle killing is worrying, and to alt loosing the valuable terrain achieved by the legislation and past population awareness, we propose several reliable measures to immediately decrease sea turtle captures, in-water and at the nesting beaches.
