Tip No.5 - Upcoming changes in ProStructures SELECTseries6's Installation.

In order to have you ready for the release of SELECTseries 6 of ProStructures here are a few things to be aware about:

1) Configuration file:

Under MicroStation version of ProStructures, the original cfg file (pro_st3d.cfg) which was under the "..\Prg\Config\" folder has been replace by a more "powerfull" configuration file. This file is now called "product.cfg" and is located in the "..\Prg\Config\appl\" folder.

Within this file the control of the file/folder locations can be done in two ways.

  • Using the System Variable of Windows (under Advanced Settings of the System Propreties)
  • Using the MicroStation variable (in the "ps3d_ustn.cfg" file located in the "..\Prg\Config\" folder)

Under AutoCAD version we have the same for System variable, but these are still being used in the original file (pro_st3d.cfg) which is under the "..\Prg\Config\" folder.

Here we have an example of a user created System Variable called "MyBlocks"

and we have the way it has to be called in the MicroStation "products.cfg" file

NOTE: Because this is a change that requires taking the time to edit/understant the new configuration file for the MicroStation version of ProStructures, it has been decided that if a "pro_st3d.cfg" file is placed in the original folder (..\Prg\Config\) where the previous versions of ProStrucures were looking for this file (this file is no longer there, you will have to place it there if you want to use it), it will overrule the new file. This way you can continue to use the configuration file the way you are used to. If the file is deleted, the system will use the newly implemented file  "product.cfg"  from the "..\Prg\Config\appl\" folder.

and another example called in the AutoCAD "pro_st3d.cfg" file.

2) Temp & Varia folders:

The temp (temporary files) & varia (template files) folders have been modifyed in the way they are installed and used. These files used to be ouside of the "Localised" folders. Using for all languages the same files onced installed. Now the files will be stored per language. Which means the Temp & Varia folders inside each language pack installed will correspond to that perticular language only.

This means when you change languages from now on, you will have different templates!
