One person died after their car became trapped under a big rig on the northbound 5 Freeway in the Newhall Pass on Wednesday morning, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

The fatal collision occurred on the 5 just north of the State Route 14 connector at about 8:30 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol’s incident log.

The big rig was apparently stopped when the vehicle went underneath the truck, and the rear of the semi ended up in the windshield, CHP’s log stated.

Aerial video from Sky5 showed a body covered in a white sheet, with the car partially stuck underneath the large vehicle.

CHP issued a SigAlert at about 9:15 a.m. after fire officials requested that the northbound 5 truck lanes to the eastbound 14 be completely shut down as a result of the crash.

It was not immediately known how long the alert would last.

The cause of the crash remained under investigation.
