Accused MacDill trespasser ruled mentally incompetent

TAMPA — A homeless woman accused of sneaking into MacDill Air Force Base four times since 2012, as well as several other military bases around the nation, was found mentally incompetent to stand trial Monday.

U.S. Magistrate Judge Anthony E. Porcelli ordered Suzanne Jensen, 51, to undergo treatment at a federal facility.

Prosecutors have said they do not think Jensen understands the criminal proceedings she faces.

Jensen is a former employee of the U.S. Forest Service and has a degree in genetics from the University of California at Berkeley.

Her mother has said Jensen may believe she is a secret agent who works at the military installations where she has been arrested numerous times.

Jensen, her mother said, responds well to treatment and usually does not remember what occurred when she is off her medication.

Jensen has been accused of sneaking into bases in Colorado, Georgia and North Carolina, among others. She also camped out one weekend in the Washington, D.C., offices of a California congressman in 2003, eating everything in an office refrigerator.

Jensen told MacDill security officials that she had spent days at a time on the base and, in at least one instance, gained access to the installation by turning over a trash can and then using it to climb over a wall.
