Two Libyans who were in a group which was brought to Malta for medical treatment on Tuesday have now been discharged from hospital and have left the country, the Health Ministry said this evening.

All 10 patients admitted to Mater Dei Hospital are still in critical condition. Another four  are still being treated for serious injuries at Saint James (Capua) Hospital while another two  were treated at the same hospital have been discharged and are now out of the country.

The ministry also deplored a report, in another section of the media, which, it said, was aimed at causing alarm.

The report had claimed that three Maltese patients were taken out of the ITU to make way for Libyan patients.

The ministry said Mater Dei treated whoever needed care without distinctions of race, colour or nationlity. Clinical decisions were taken on the basis of the condition of the patients.

The ministry said activity at Mater Dei was continuing normally and whoever needed to be treated at the ITU was given such treatment.
