HOLDEN, Maine — Crews from Emera Maine are working to restore power to the Holden area after thunderstorms moved through early Wednesday morning and knocked out power to more than 2,200 Emera customers.

As of 1 p.m., Emera Maine reported on its Web site that only 12 customers were without electricity.

Emera said in a press release issued around 7:30 a.m. that Holden was the hardest hit, but outages also were reported in Brewer, Orrington, Dedham and Lucerne.

Some streetlights reportedly were out in Brewer, so motorists were cautioned to use care during their morning commutes.

Emera said in the press release a total of 2,229 customers were affected, with 2,223 in Penobscot and six in Hancock counties.
